I would recommend getting of Paul Vunak's website and looking up Matt Augustine(spelling May be wrong) everyone in the Progressive fighting organization say he is one of the best he is from new york. If he isn't close to you i would travel and take an intensive personal training program with him i am sure it will be worth you while. Otherwise there is a lot of PFS instructors in New York one should be close to you .

Take Tae Kwon Do instead? Are you freakin nuts? That is totally bunk! If you know anything about JKD, is that its not a style! If you are refering to Bruce Lee's official style of fighting then you mean Jun Fan Gung Fu. Anyway, the idea of JKD is lightyears ahead of Tae Kwon Cookie Do. JKD is the idea of not limiting yourself and learning all ranges of fighting. Tae Kwon Do is very limiting in this aspect. I would like to know how you back up a statement like that.

Sarcasm, and a word about TKD

Hey Jimi,

I think that was just a little bit of sarcasm

I "TRY" to respect all styles. I think there are bits and pieces that you can take from everything. There is so much to learn it seems. Kali and the Filipino martial arts are a whole new ballgame if you are not familiar with them.
That is what I am finding out right now as I do drills with a buddy who has several yearls of Kali under his belt.

Having said all that, I have to add that Tae Kwon Do is the worst friggin' class you can take when it comes to self-defense and fighting. It's not good for street fighting, it's not good for ring or sport fighting, it's really good for nothing...... lol (This is really going upset out TKD people, but oh well.)

I will admit one thing about TKD: It's great for kids! All the balancing, being light on your feet and high kicks are a great foundation for any sport. It equips those kids with great athletic skill which will be of great benefit should they enter any other sports, (e.g Basketball, Football, Soccer.....)

That's my rant about TKD! I think Ryan and I see eye to eye on that.

There are people who can make TKD work in the ring and on the streets. It's not the art, it's a combination of how it's taught and the person doing it.

These days, I do Kali, Silat, Kuntao Silat, and Shen Chuan. But I started in TKD. What I was taught in TKD (nearly 25 years ago) was very practical ... but also a lot different than the *usual* TKD you find these days. The fault lies with the instructor, though, not the art. The art itself has a lot of good things in it.

Yeah I think it's funny that people always put down TKD.

I have an old MA Training Magazine with an interview with Master Toddy. In the article it quotes him as saying he likes his fighters to take 5 years of TKD. He is a fairly well respected trainer for fighters I believe in the Muay Thai circles.
