  • JKD Videotape Training

I am fairly new to JKD, I started last September. As I have had a hardt ime sticking to a regular training schedule, I am interested in getting one or two good JKD training videotape collections. If anyone has a recommndation or has a previously used set they would like to sell please let me know. I am especially interested in collections by Dan Inosanto, Burton Richardson, Paul Vuanak, Chris Kent and Jerry Poteet.

Any other JKD training tips appreciated as well.

    Videos

Stick with the most functional Instructors like Paul Vunak, Matt Thorton, Burton Richardson, Dan Inosanto. These guys all have functionality in there systems.

I recommend videos by all of these guys i own videos from all of them and they all have good stuff. I especially like Vunak and Thorton the best they are my favorites.

    Good luck in training,

yea the vunak tapes are pretty good... i learned some good stuff from those videos and that got me more interested in JKD than i previously was before. after you learn from the tapes tho, you gotta train. there is no subsitution for training with a real live moving dynamic sparring partner. the streetfighting series is pretty good, although kinda on the old school side of taping. i wish they made the set in DVD tho. =)

        thanks for the advice guys

Sounds like great advice. You mentioned all the guys that were at the top of my wish list (except I'm not familiar with Matt Thorton?.) I also wondered if anyone has checked out the Larry Hartsell and or the Jerry Poteet tapes and what they thought of those?

I was training with a training partner and a JKD teacher about twice per month from August to January, I just haven't been able to get out there much since Feb or Mar. I figured having the tapes will enable me to learn more on my own time when I can't get there plus review things I've already learned. I am defintley interessted in getting a good set of videos or two. Thanks again for the info.

          Other good tapes

          Hi Skinny,
In addition to the recommended tapes I also suggest anything by Patrick Strong and I really like the JKD from A-Z series by Chris Kent. I have heard Lamar Davis's tapes are also good. I also liked the series done by Sean Madigan. I hope this helps.

I've seen a few of these JKD tapes, and I liked what I saw. However, Matt Thornton's FJKD tapes are by far my favorite.

I would pick Burton's videos, and try to attend thai and bjj classes whenever possible. Supplement with the vids when can't get to class.
