  • Looking for PFS JKD instructor in Southern California

    Sup,

I am looking for a JKD teacher in the Southern California area (909, 714). I would prefer to take privates or small group classes. Sunday classes are A+. I would like to train under a PFS teacher either Phase One or Full Instructor. I am new to JKD and plan on taking a IPTP course with Paul Vunak sometime this year. Thanks

      Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have looked at it, but I know there are a lot more instructors that aren't on the list yet. Also, all it says is the state the instructor is from, no contact info or anything.

Don't know if you found a school yet...if not I saw this place driving home from work one day. I stopped by and the instructor's intstructor learned from Dan Inosato, so it's like a 2nd Generation Inosato school....

            Academy of World Martial Arts
            Vista, CA

            (760) 758-8500

That's San Diego's northern county, so I don't know if that's any near where you were looking. I ended up enrolling in the Kali & Silat classes, and I know they do the JKD Phase classes on other nights.

              Hi Gunjin,

Thanks for the info, unfortunately SD is a little too far for me. I have not yet found a school to join but have contacted Tim Welch who is a Full Instructor under Vunak and he seems to be a cool instructor. I am thinking of checking his school out sometime next week. Anyways, thanks again for trying to help me out. Good luck on your Kali Silat class. Maphilindo Silat is a cool art, I bet you'll like it. Take care.

                  Hi,

I got Tim Welch's info off of ocjkd.com. Tim is closer to where I am. Also, Thomas's prices are out of my range. I think he's charging like $100 a month for once a week, they are semi private classes. Anyways, thanks for the look out. Take care.

Not sure where you are looking, but try looking at Jerry Wetzel's school. www.centerlinegym.com I hear good things about him.

My friend Travis Downing is opening a new school in long beach. He is a qualified instructor in muay thai, JKD, Kali, BJJ and has studied combat submission wrestling under Erik Paulson. He is a wonderful instructor and along with Joey Pena heads the Sayoc Kali OC study group. You may contact him at travisdowning@earthlink.net
