i started kenpo 7 years ago :
when i first started i started with american kenpo with one of larry tatums student from pasadena he is a 5th degree , i went all the way to purple belt and short form 2
but then i moved to mexico and found a kenpo school there i recieved my black belt in mexico at a school that some how has a frank trejo linage behind it , the technique tools were the same but the combos were diffrent with diffrent names - the katas were also diffrent - it kind of messed me up at first i thought i was taking a fake version of kenpo - but i was wrong !
from what i remeber my american kenpo class was bad ass my teacher reminded me of the bad guy teacher in karate kid he also showed us jujitsu on the side - and my mexico class was more traditional almost made me feel like i was in japan or okinawa both were bad ass !
once i came back to the states and showed my kenpo brothers what i had learned they were impressed by the techniques but when i did the katas they were looking at me like they were confused.
later i learned several belts of the tracy kenpo that i felt was bad ass and fit my style of fighting thats when i new kenpo was kenpo now in days i do what ever i feel is right for me at the time i enter my own personal dojo.
