Intersting article. I think that says something for HKD (not all of course). Though I don't think HKD needs to be validated by Royce I do think it makes a statement that he choose that style while others are in abundance. Basically, it just says one one system is the best.

Rickson Gracie has a black belt in Judo. It only makes sense for them (as well as others) to cross train in other styles. Though I am guessing Nono must have some other art under his belt. HapKiDo is not what I would call a real great foundation for kickboxing.

no, it really isnt, I agree. Hapkido is good for doing some damage on the way in and then locking or grappling.

Don't know if you've seen the footage of the HKD police officer, but he puts down a huge pimp with one hit to the ear or neck barehanded.

I haven't, but I trained HapKiDo for almost three years awhile back. So I know most of the basics pretty well. There are some very good strikes, and if you get one of the locks in place someone if going to be in some serious pain.

People are quick to dismiss the masters of traditional arts like Hapkido until they see a skinny white guy KO someone built like Arnold. I wish I could get a clip of that guy.

Someone said gary goodridge knew kuk sool. He actually does not know anything a school promised to sponsor him if he wore there gi but he has never taken kuk sool. As for the hapkido guy it said he trained in kickboxing so I am guessing he teaches hapkido locks and kickboxing strikes to Gracie.

Really? His bio on the pride site used to say Kuk Sool Won, that's why I thought he had been trained in that.

I just checked on sherdog he is listed as Kuk Sool. Out of curiosity, what stlye was he supposed to have studied, I can't believe a school just sponsored him to promote the MA and not teh dojang. Anyway here is the link

not all hapkido is the same. Like Karte has Kokushin and sheidokan (sp). There are many differnt types of Hapkido.

He wore the schools gi so they would sponsor him. If you look at his matches it is nothing like kuk sool. Also kuk sool does not have a lot of submissions or groundwork and if you look at the stats a few of his wins are submissions. His style is boxing/muay thai for standup wrestling and bjj.

I was under the conclussion that Kuk Sool Won has numerous joint lock ands arrest and control techniques...all valuable submission tools. Am I incorrect in my understanding of Kuk Sool Won?

HeyEarl, when you gone teach me some Karate...well see I teach Kuk Sool...aint that chinese for karate...NO, Kuk Sool Won is Korean...dont you be cussin' me in chinese...for real Earl teach my how to shoot fire balls and $&%T out my wazoo!

Submissions are things like the armbar that if you do not tap out then you suffer damage while joint locks and arrest and control just control your opinion. I know goodridge is not kuk sool. He just wore the gi so the school would sponsor him. He wrestled in high school and went on to learn mt, boxing, and bjj. I also know the crucifix is not part of kuk sool.

Interesting, well an armbar is a lock and submissions moves are just that anything that will cause which will cause an opponent to tap. Chokes are submission moves, people don't tap becuase of pain they tap becuase they know they will pass out.

Regarding Goodrige, I guess what I don't understand is what was his affiliation with Kuk Sool, that they would sponsor him. Now in the early UFC OK maybe by why is he still only claiming Kuk Sool. Perhaps he has studied since the early 90's. Many people have added striking and ground grappling techniques to their arsenal for MMA fights but that does not mean he is not a Kuk Sool stylist. I am not completly doubting what you say it is just not clear to me ...no flame.

I think what CKD is driving at is Gary gets his subs on the ground, and HapKiDo/Kuk Sool does theirs standing up.

No what I am saying is the kuk sool place sponsored him. In this article he says his main style is muay thai and boxing with bjj ground work. https://www.thesenetwork.com/Columns...45571226.shtml If you look at his matches his style is nothing like kuk sool. This is not to say kuk sool is a bad style it is in fact a very good one. But gary does not do kuk sool. This interview gary tells his real experience in kuk sool. One class or so https://www.sherdog.com/interviews/g...nterview1.shtm See it says they would sponsor him and there is no kuk sool in the UFC. and this interview it tells his real style mt and wrestling. https://www.sherdog.com/interviews/g...interview.shtm If you are going to read only one interview then read the second one since it tells the most. Hope this is enouph evidence for you.
