  • helping a friend out

this guy i know wants to get involved in martial arts, hes looking into mainly korean arts because there are many dojangs near his place. hes looking into Tang Soo Do,Judo or Hapkido. he wants to know which one would be effective for self defense and combat. He's been brutally attacked by some of the kids at the school a couple of times and wants to learn how to fight and defend himself.

First judo isn't a korean art. Second I would recommend hapkido. I would prefer judo as an art but I wouldn't recommend him slamming kids to the concrete at school. Hapkido will teach him some great joint locks to put kids in there place without making to big of a scene.

BVER is correct Judo Is a japanese style. you would learn throws and alot of locks. But I would also recommend HKD over TSD for your friend's situation. However, I think he she go to a boxing gym first to learn some good hand skills. The problem with HKD is that alot of ppl also trained TKD and it seems they feel is a wristlock is added to TKD they have the right to advertise HKD so be careful. Lineage and the instructors rank in the style you are interested is very important.
