          • new information here.....

tonight at tkd class, we watched my teachers as well as others black belt test on tape. their technique went to shit, they would duck their head and start throwing wild punches. i was really disappointed to see him like that. but at the same time, it was just a little more info to back up my beliefs of its ineffectiveness

              GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION

The following acts are regarded as "illegal actions." When a fighter commits any of these illegal actions, he will be given a warning from the referee (in the form of a yellow card). Warnings will be considered as negative points in the event that the match goes to a decision. Three warnings will result in a disqualification.

1 No head butting, eye gouging, hair pulling, biting or fish hooking.
              2 No attacking the groin
3 No strikes (kicks, elbows, punching) to the back of the head (which includes the occipital region and the spine). The sides of the head and the area around the ears are not considered to be the back of the head.
4 No small joint manipulation (control of four or more fingers/toes is necessary).
5 No elbow strikes to the head and face.
6 No intentionally throwing your opponent out of the ring.
7 No running out of the ring.
8 No purposely holding the ropes. Fighters cannot purposely hang an arm or leg on the ropes. Hanging on the ropes will result in an immediate warning.
9 No kicks or knees to the head or the face of an opponent who falls face down.
10 No application of oil, ointment, spray, Vaseline, massaging cream, hair cream, or any other substances is permitted to any part of the fighter's body before and during the fights. The discovery of any of these substances will result in a disqualification.

it says falls face down. when you shoot, you dont really fall, you change your level and "shoot" in.

                  • I agree with your interpretation of #9 but I think it even "falls face down" is considered any downed opponent including shooting. If #9 is about safty I would ask what if he fell on his back? and I am sure he answer would still be NO. I may be wrong with PRIDE I think the UFC was just more clear

i dont know, that would give a new reason to why their are no knock outs when someone is shooting. thank you for the info. i still believe that an olympic or ncaa champion wrestler, or anyone who trains hard enough is not going to see too many knees to the face while shooting.

Right you are. People don't realize how a proper shot is set up or how quickly it is, by necessity, executed.
