It's amazing how a simple question about taekwondo's anniversary can deteriorate into a muck slinging match so quickly. As far as I'm concerned, the General suggested the name Taekwondo and it was accepted as the official title for the art of the unified kwans on 11th April 1955. This was before the KTA, ITF, WTF, ATA, UKTA, TAGB, AIMAA, GTF, GTI, ITA, etc, etc, existed. It seems many associations (I'm not going to single any out here) are more interested in pushing there own party lines rather than considering what would benefit taekwondo as a martial art.
It's funny how there are god knows how many systems of karate out there, but they all acknowledge each other, and all credit Gechin Funakoshi as being the one to introduce it to Japan, it's a shame that Korean Martial Artists cant extend this coertesy to General Choi, regardless of what they thought about him as a person. You can't re-write history.
I personally think we should mark the occassion with some sort of celebration, but maybe we could have an amnesty between all the factions so we could all share our knowledge and benefit taekwondo as a whole.
