It's amazing how a simple question about taekwondo's anniversary can deteriorate into a muck slinging match so quickly. As far as I'm concerned, the General suggested the name Taekwondo and it was accepted as the official title for the art of the unified kwans on 11th April 1955. This was before the KTA, ITF, WTF, ATA, UKTA, TAGB, AIMAA, GTF, GTI, ITA, etc, etc, existed. It seems many associations (I'm not going to single any out here) are more interested in pushing there own party lines rather than considering what would benefit taekwondo as a martial art.

It's funny how there are god knows how many systems of karate out there, but they all acknowledge each other, and all credit Gechin Funakoshi as being the one to introduce it to Japan, it's a shame that Korean Martial Artists cant extend this coertesy to General Choi, regardless of what they thought about him as a person. You can't re-write history.

I personally think we should mark the occassion with some sort of celebration, but maybe we could have an amnesty between all the factions so we could all share our knowledge and benefit taekwondo as a whole.

      ok

People in martial arts in general are too stuck up most of the time to be able to acknowledge each other. So all the stu0pid organizations that exist just want to fight.

If anyone is a true practitioner of TKD then they will acknowledge all of the techniques and forms in ever organization and perfect their skills in it all regardless of what their arrogant stupid instructor thinks they should do. Go beyond your school and train in other stuff and actually be good.

I am just happy to be a member of Taekwondo, I love going to class and just participating.
April I finally will get my black belt after over 2 years of grueling lessons. The first 6 months I actually had to crawl out of bed, live on Aleve, and where pain patches.
Before I get flamed to badly, I always did some type of exercise and since i work in architecture I sit 10 hrs in one stop or bent over a computer. Also I was 51 when I started.
        Thanks

I wish there was a strong Taekwondo school here but there isnt. I quit the last one. I havnt trained for awhile due to injuries and getting surgeries. Now I joined a gym and lift weights and run on the treadmill. I bet without practicing any martial arts fort this long I can STILL beat most TKD kids in this city.

No one is celebrating because TKD sucks.
