  • Traditional TKD school in NYC?

Hello folks! Does anybody know of a traditional TKD school in NYC (preferably the Bronx) that offers a well balanced training curriculum that one can actually use in a real life situation? Not a McDojang, or an olympic sport TKD school (been there, done that). Thanks in advance

I don't know of any in New York City, b ut i can tell you afew things to look for.
    1.) Contact sparring regularly.
    2.)Long drilling section of class.
3.)Heavy bags and other training equipment for developing striking power.
4.)That they keep their hands up durring sparring.
5.)That they don't feed you the standard "TKD is a complete art" crap. Maybe they've added somethign to it to make it complete, or they practice a particularly brutal early version of the art, but if they make these claims make sure they back them up. This means asking to see them perform these techniques and and see them train them.

Any art that features live sparringwith amply resistance(meaning that all your sparring partners don't suck) will have seld-defense relevence. That doesn't mean they all will cover all your ranges. Most TKD schools don't touch ground fighting and only give a nod to grappling. Their are some that cover these more indepth and even go so far as to have instructors in other arts come in to teach these things. This doesn't mean that they're not good schools or not effective, it just means that they only teach TKD as an upright stricking system, Which the art was designed as.

Those are the things anyone should look for in a Dojang, hope it helps.
