Since I was in WTF before olympic sparring even occurred to them all tournaments at that time were point sparring. Many of the schools here continued their open tournaments although being WTF schools and still do from time to time. Probably because it makes more money for them as more schools and children can participate without fear of serious injury. I have still seen very serious injuries at point sparring tournaments so go figure.

Granted most schools that continue the open tournament point sparring have left the WTF over the last several years.

Point sparring tournaments have lots of problems. The first being Stopping when point are called. Second many force you to block shots that would have not mattered because it lacked sufficient power to do anything. Third Is improper use of pulling techinque to get 1/3 power. Fourth is limited target areas.

As I have said in other posts, I do not teach, nor train for tournaments anymore. I found they create bad habits.

You perform the way you train. So if you spend most of your time with your hands down that's what you will do in real life should you need it.

As for ignoring you, I did not have time to answer you TKD. Also you have already said you don't care about my opinion so why would I waste my time giving it to you? I have better things to do than teach you martial arts for free. I don't owe anything to you and I am not at your beck and call.

I don't understnad it... Don't people have the common sense to realize that Taekwondo guys would never do one of those bear hugs in a real fight?

Don't take competitors for idiots. Taekwondo olympians know the difference between the Olympics and MMA and real fighting.

And I also find this super moderator of ours to be highly hypocritcal. You know what I think it is? People bash Taekwondo right? So mr. moderator over here is insecure, wants to feel superior so he turns around and bashes STYLES of Taekwondo...

It's like the Puritans in North America all over again...

Come on people... please relax... One of the main reasons that I join this forum was because I enjoy the freedom of speech that all we share here, and other was the respect that all show for Taekwondo and practitioners, without thinking in affiliation or style...

As our moderator suggest in other post... "Remember the tenets of Tae Kwon Do"

            Believe what you will kid.

It's the fighter not the style. Take a great fighter and teach him taebo and he will figure out how to make it work.

It's all about how well you can make it work for you, and if it contains enough information for you to take it where you want to.

As for fighters, habits are powerful things. Throw enough kicks without a pivot and soon you stop pivoting. Stop pivoting and someday you blow your knee.

If you like this forum you should thank me. I am the one that asked for it to be created so I could control the tkd bashing.

there is a difference between bashing and being critical. Show me something that works better than what I have been shown and I am happy to change.

Yeah I will admit WTF teaches some bad habits but so do other systems.
And secondly, as I said before, even competitors know when to put their hands up. They aren't physically and mentally retarded or paralyzed... They can control their arms... It's simple you see. Brain determines real fight or olympics. Brain sends signals to nerves. Nerves send signals to arm muscles. Arm muscles are brought up in sparring/fighting stance..

                  Okay let me help you.

Have you been trained in low blocks below the waist? if you have and you enter full contact then you will realize this is one of the worst habits you ever gave yourself.

Recently photographers came to our TKD school for picture taking. All black belts developed a problem. They could not, even when trying execute kicks without pulling their hands up to block the face. many pictures later we got the had down to chin level. The was conscious effort.

As H.U. Lee said. practice does not make perfect. perfect practice makes perfect.

With regards to an Olympic athlete/WTF TKD Competitor being able to tell the difference between a sports competition and and street fight, of course they can... on a conscious level. What you have to understand is that to compete in any sport at the world class level, and the olympics is world class, you have to spend thousands of hours training specific techniques, combinations strategies, etc until they are ingrained and become natural reactions. That means the movements become subconscious. That means that under stress, you will react according to the way that you were trained. If you have spent thousands of hours sparring with your hand down, you will fight with your hands down. If your coach has told you for years to turn away from your opponent so that they cannot score on the colored strip that runs across your chest protector, you will react in the way you were taught.

And, yes, a WTF competitor did try to push me out of the ring with his chest and his arms out to the sides. The tend to do that to people from other TKD factions that try to compete in WTF Rules.

Don't get me wrong, Dan Gun. The guy got a warning for it. As a matter of fact, I've seen it done several times and each time the judges were quick to administer warnings. But like I said before in an earlier reply, it's as much about manipulating the rules as it is about skill. When they're told that the next infraction will result in a penalty, that's when you see it stop.

You have to realize though... most WTF guys train with hands up... It's only olympic guys that put their hands down. Secondly, olympic guys train with both hands up and down, not only with hands down.

By saying WTF is weak, you are also saying that you can beat every single South korean taekwondo practitioner (S.Korea is WTF)... kinda arrogant there
