  • Should I or not? TKD, Jujitsu

I am currently in taekwondo and am a yellow belt. I like it alot but I also wanna learn jujitsu so that I can learn locks, throws and other moves that arent taught in taekwondo..should I take jujitsu and tae kwon do at the same time or not? Will it mess up my Tae kwon do Training? Also, does tae kwon do really work on the streets? Thanks.

Theres a lot of TKD bashers out there. I must admit Im one of them too only because its NOT practical on the streets. Flashy kick and all that is nice to look at but defending a takedown or a real punch, its not practical. Jiu Jitsu wont mess up your training as long as they dont fall on the same day or something. Theres no real conflict in stances or anything like that like in karate or TKD. You just got to ask yourself, Am I training to fight? Am I training for a hobby? Am I training for sport (competition/tournament)?

A lot of my friends train in TKD, I dont bash on them because its something they like to do. Its like my friends who bowl, its stupid and doesent compliment the body much, but its fun to them. My advice, take a class at ju jitsu school. If you like it and can do both financially, do it. If not, stick to TKD. Only you can decide.

Yep. Definitely TKD_guy89. Same MO. But he's been demoted since last we saw him.

when ever anyone thinks of TKD they think 720 jumps kicks, you can EASILY apply TKD to REAL situations. A solid round house to the knee or to the floating rip will put any decent man down, TKD isn't all about striking to the head. Wether it is as effective as other SD's remains to been seen but its quite simple to apply it to a SD situation.

As to doing JJ, it shouldn't effect your TKD at all as MTG15 pointed out, infact it might compliment your training, especially in areas such as balancing through distributing you weight.

Everything is effective on the streets as long as you survive. Swinging your arms randomly can get effective, everyone will think you are a pussy, but you survived therefore effective. Someone who buys a punching bag, has no boxing skills and just gives it his/her all everyday day in day out can be effective. You don't need to train in a certain "style" to be effective.

Taekwon-Do is effective if you put time into it. People who don't train and don't give it there all are not effective. The best fighters in the world are not the best fighters in the world because of there style, it is because of there effort.
