  • Choi Kwang Do? Know anything about it?

Hey, ive just joined and am looking into getting into some kind of martial arts.
Ive tried a few schools already around where i live but have been less then impressed with most, except for wing chun, and the only other choice is out of ki aikido, Jiu Jitsu or Choi Kwang Do.

I dont know much about Choi Kwang Do though and it does sound interesting if anyone could shed some light on it id be grateful. Also any info on the other styles, about which might be the most beneficial fighting and fitness wise, would be helpful too.

    cheers.

    Choi Kwang Do

I took a few months worth of classes back in the 90s.

It's an off-shoot of TKD. The founder modified the techniques from purely linear strikes to more elliptical motions. He felt that this increased power and caused less stress on the joints. There is more emphasis in putting your entire body into the strikes.

Fitness-wise the class was a great workout.

But they don't spar because they're too deadly.

Their self-defence moves are somewhat iffy, especially against the knife. The ground-work that I saw might work against an untrained, unmotivated, physically weak person.

Maybe their training has evolved some since then.

      Thanks for the advice aseepish.

They really don't spar because they think its too deadly? lol.
Other then that it sounds ok i'll have to give it a go. I don't want to be a killing machine just would like to take up something and learn some fighting techniques, usable against the average joe. I think you can become very proficient and effective with any art if you do it for long enough.

      Anyway thanks for the advice.
