Well, there just as fast, actually a bit faster, than tornado kicks. Unless you take ages in the set-up, which you do, if you arent completely comfortable with them. Me personnally I prefer sideswipes, but I aint no fool, I'd never bring those moves into a fight. Though my friend has a real knack for landing tricking move in fights... or at least almost landing them and pulling back right before he hits ya... Usually. But he is insane.

You know, I can't even do any of those tricking moves...im trying to learn the tornado kick in which you land with your kicking foot, haha. We don't do any trick moves in my school, cuz we are hardcore =P haha. Any tips on it though, I'm so close

Yeah, the tornado landing on the kicking leg is called a 540 in tricking. It has a LOT of variations, but the basic one is just fine. my only tips I have to give you would be that for one, it has a lot to do with your upper body and arms, which a lot of people miss, use your arms to get extra height, throw them up and around to help your body do the same, also you can either just do a lil baby type kick, more like a hop you know? Just to get the feel, and bring that kick around more and more and higher and higher, or you can try landing on both legs at the same time to start with. But otherwise just keep practicing it, and you'll get it. For more information on tricks, go to http://www.trickstutotials.com the guy who runs it is an AWESOME tricker, and does martial arts, or did, or somthing, and he is stupidly funny.

But just to make this post a little more useful to the thread... my input, seriously, tornado kick in a fight... Not impossible, but not recommended in my oppinion =P

Haha thanks dude. Yeah, not recommended, but it is practical if you just go for distance toward your opponent, instead of making it noticeable by throwing your hands up =P haha. I've used it plenty of times, works out nice

Yeah, but who cares about effectiveness when you can look cool? Haha! Try getting some tricking moves, and throw a combo. Try a spinning hook, tornado, spinning hook, 540. Simple combo.

Haha, I gotta be able to do a 540 first!! Everyone says it's easy, but I don't train and practice it much, just in my spare time =P I must say though, it's a good way to get in shape

Haha! Yeah fair enough, tricking is a great way to stay in shape... My friend also has never been toght anything about kicks, and kicks better than blackbelt TKD guys (we know, we've fought em) purely from tricking kicks. Its awesome! But yeah, 540s are really easy, but there hard to get, though once you get it, your gonna hit yourself over the head and go "damn! why couldnt I do that before?" So just keep at it.

hahaha. True that. I dont know about better than black belts =P Tricking is just good for speed and looking flashy. I dont believe if you hit anyone with it, whether or not it would hurt anything. I could be wrong. Haha, next time I try it, I will use your tip and swing my arms, I'm trying to tilt my body sideways a little too? just for rotation...if that's wrong, let me know, lololol.

No he doesnt use tricking kicks in fights, but because of tricking, all he's kicks are better than the blackbelts, I'm not kidding. Its really cool. But yeah, he isnt stupid enough to think it'd work in a fight, he actually gets annoyed when people think it can. The only tricking kicks he'd actually use, would be rarely, and things like Jackknives (three kicks, in one rotation in the air, hook, round, and hook) and kicks where you spin, then kick, or kick multiple times or somthing. Like 720s, and things like that. Yeah, knock yourself out, doing it on an angle really helps me, its what made me first land them. If you do it completely horizontal its called a sideswipe and looks so much cooler.

sideswipe just sounds cool, haha. Jackknives sound just like 540, but each spin you kick? most tkd people I see do it that way. Break boards with each spin, it's pretty insane!

Yeah, sideswipes are insane, and even cooler are snap-U-swipes, imagine a sideswipe, but instead of landing straight after the kick, tucking into a spin before landing. But yeah, Jackknives are like 540s but with a hook kick before, and after the tornado-ish/roundhouse kick. Heh heh heh I can do Jackknives! yay! and sideswipes, but my 540s are still real dodgy, I find sideswipes easier. Another cool kick is a Butterfly twist kick. BUtterfly kick set-up, but do a 360 degree twist, and kick with the leg that left the ground first before landing. And a hyper-hook, is the same, but landing on the leg that left the ground first (like a 540) and throwing a hook kick directly upon or before landing... Oooo! A shuriken twist or illusion twist are awesome too! Shuriken twist is a butterfly twist, but the leg you land on flares out, looks kickass, and an illusion twist is roughly the same, but you land on the other leg, and it looks all cool, and switch leg-ish... GO on youtube and look up examplers or tutorials for these tricks if you wanna see 'em... or club540.com have a tricktionary with these tricks.

Haha! you should see my friend! He can double fulltwist (backflip, with two spins... 720 degree backflip), and he can almost double Btwist, and he can do everything I can, but better, and more. Actually I can masterswipe and he cant... Haha! Masterswipe is a skip leg cartwheel-type thing, he could if he tryed, he just doesnt. He can do a lot. He has a sampler on youtube, look for Ethan Sampler Superior and you should find it. Its good stuff ^_^
