you wont get full body weight force from an axe kick at a standing man sized target ...to do this you would need to be above the target kicking down ..
and i wouldnt advise using an upper block either unless thai bri is defining the correct application is turning it on contact to an outer block actualy deflecting the kick though i cant tell because he didnt elaborate and the abuse began

it's funny to see people arguing over how to do an exactly proper block, when nine times out of ten the mechanics will be the same but the move will be done differently from a myriad of styles...
i wouldn't do an axe kick much any more because the only part that really hurts is if you connect with the heal, and there's a lot of foreshadowing since it goes up and comes back down...
but a good axe kicked to the collar bone unprotected can be a beautiful thing...
on the opposite end: if someone rushes in and gets under your calf they've got an easy takedown in their hands....
just my .02

I'm not sure exactly how you won, or how you win an argument about a block, block an axe kick with a rising block, I don't give a shit, hopefully one day it will be my axe kick you're trying to block, then I can pull my foot out of your skull and we can have a laugh about it. And Spanky, get off your knees, you know Thai Bri likes you!

Full Circle.
In all honesty (and I know it is hard to make a judgement over the net), taking into account your apparent knowledge, and the art you study...... I don't feel that you would present me with the slightest problem.
No offence.

wow its great to see a group of martial artist with so much experiance can let the ego's go and just communicate about a topic like ordinary human beings without trying to prove whos dick is digger...
if you guys teach and your students acted like this what would you tell them
everyone is entitled to think what they want and unless there is some deadly internet dimak art im not aware of i dont think it will hurt
when will someone choose to be the bigger man and stop the abuse
you know all those cliches ..it takes a bigger a man to walk away
the surer you are of yourself the less you feel the need to prove it to others
and who cares who can kick whos arse im not waisting my time training so i can kick other peoples arses im doing it because it a way of life to me
get over the fear just do what you do because you want to and just shrug of the guy who thinks he can kick your arse because it donst matter..i dont intend to fight anyone online here and i doubt anyone else does
also please consider that there are people new to martial arts who may take your attitudes on board and ive never trained in a school that has the attitudes you guys are expressing

Axe kicks
Back in my younger days, meaning before I was an Instructor, axe kick was one of my favorite techniques. Not that I recommend it right off the bat, but I was able contact quite a few times by setting it up, especially after they dropped their hands. Bloodied one student's nose rightly. Poor bastard came in from Wyoming with his Instructor for the honor.
I do think with enough practice and the right timing, it makes a great self defense kick. Obviously not one done by a new or relatively new student.
