And how about rash guards? good brands, bad brands? How important is a rash gaurd anyway... I see people wearing them, but I haven't had too much trouble with mat burn (I also wear a gi most of the time and train on nice cushy mats).

They all have their good points and bad. The sprawl shorts are good. I have a pair and love them. The disadvantage is that they are a lot easier to hold on to than lycra fight shorts. The difference between the rash guard and the underarmour is kinda like this. The rash guard is thicker and last longer but is alot hotter I find. The under armour is thinner and doesn't last as long but it is much cooler. Most of the time I wear the under armour though and wear the rash guards when I am competing. They're really hard for your opponent to grab on to, like falcon said.

By the way, http://mmagear.com are pretty good for gear. I've ordered a few things through there (a couple of kimonos and a t shirt). Delivery didn't take too long either, seeing as they shipped from brazil to NZ.

Yea, I prefer the fight shorts in competition because I don't get held as much. Plus I found sometimes they can get a hold of enough of those sprawl shorts to start pulling them down. Not a pretty site in the ring.

I'm afraid to wear fight shorts. I'm a hairy dude and to have all that hair sticking out is not a pretty sight. It looks like they stuck a pair on a chimp. Its horrifying on my part as well as on the onlookers.
