Because in those days Judo was basically a part of Jiu-jitsu. In those days his "business card" would say "Jiu-itsu master and champion of Judo" and not the other way around.

Gives birth to various schools.... "X" Ryu Jiu-Jitsu.
Jigoro Kano took out dangerous techniques and made Judo. Sport version of Jiu-Jitsu.

Helio Gracie learned Jiu-Jitsu but he was too small for a lot of the throws, so he focused on the groundwork.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is just a grand baby of old school Jiu-Jitsu like Aiki-Jiu-Jitsu. But as times evolve so does fighting....

In Aiki-Ju-Jitsu you had samurais with armor and swords. You needed to be able to take down your opponent fast and buy enough time to get another weapon if you lost your first one.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu I am guessing evolved around Vale Tudo. One-on-one unarmed NHB fights. So BJJ can use more elaborate groundwork, more patience, positioning, etc.

It's just Helio's version of Jiu-Jitsu. Judo I guess you could say is Kano's version of Jiu-Jitsu. Dragonball Z Jiu-Jitsu is Carlos Newton's version of jiu-jitsu lol. I haven't slept for a long time.... forgive me if I am incoherent.

I pretty much agree with that. All the styles of jujitsu have their origins in Nippon.

This is muy interesante in that it goes to the concept of "use what works - for you. Bruce Lee was pretty much expounding the same sort of philosophy in the striking arts. Que es algo que me ha interesado mucho recientemente; the adaptation and adoption of various techniques which may work best for me on a uniquely personal level. The discarding of otherwise valid techniques which have not served me well because of my own personal limitations. A focus on efficiency in training; not wasting one's time learning how to do something if you're not likely to ever use it or do it well. Study the standard curriculum, yes! But eventually start discriminating and defining a personal style. Just, for God's sake, don't give a name and start teaching it as a formalized system! Oh, and, did anybody see that just then? Huh?

It was because diring those times judo was known as Kano's jiu-jitsu. But nowadays it is more widely known as judo. The Brazilians did not really create much, it is more in the setup that they have taken ne waza to a higher level.
