Best Videos for Beginners

I am looking to get a tape set to introduce me to BJJ (I do mostly stand up & I want to round out my game). Maybe in 6 mths or so I will find a school. Until then, does anyone have recommendations?

I see that there are Renzo/Kukuk sets for around $60.00.
Kukuk's A to Z is going for $99.00. Seem cheap to me, but are they any good?

I am also considering Roy Harris 101 series.

Will the Carvalho or Sperry sets be too advanced for a beginner?

Wallid, Moriera, Carlson Gracie Jr. etc. etc.

What to choose?

There are a ton of great tape sets on the market. Some are great and some...not so great. I will list some that you should consider.

Matt Thornton's Functional JKD series 1 and 2. I have his second series tape set and it is simply one of the best ones on the market. It's a five tape set (which is on sale now) that contains probably the two best tapes on the 'guard' and wrestling from the top ever made.
The Practical Grappler Submission Wrestling Syllabus. A complete Syllabus for ground grapplers. A great place to start (good for advanced guys too) albeit demonstrates no takedowns. I guess thats what a good right cross is for.

Bas Rutten's Extreme Pancrase video series from Panther. A huge collection of some of the coolest submissions and set ups. A great tape series.


Roy Harris has some awesome tapes. His positional escapes is good. His arm lock tapes are great as well as his 'takedowns from knees.
