Just because they have stopped being good temple-goers, doesn't mean that they are immune to the cultural influence of 5000 years worth of history. "The Jews" are interesting because they are a people, a culture, and a religion all in one. I can change my religion and call myself "a Jew", but that won't make me the same as someone born into a Jewish family. If I had more time, I would read up on Jewish history. Unfortunately, I don't.
