Its an art not a form of combat. I have watched it practiced alot and talked with people who have studied it. It will help your flexibility and balance, but in a fight? Sweeping circle kicks and sacrificing your center of gravity are about the worst things you can do, in particular while turning your back to the opponent. Its a cool thing to study, just don't try and use the technique's in any kind of fight.

      dancing? funny..
i'd like to see you in a roda or even a street fight with a capoeirista.. you'll be able to pitch in a few punches, fo' sho'.. who'll win? you won't..

btw.. martial arts is about respect.. show some to it..

what do you practice? doesn't it come up in the Martial ART criteria? it's an art because of the skillfully crafted movements. Like all other "arts" of fighting and self defense.

Sacrificing your center of gravity? that's something not done in capoeira, you're basically focusing urself in show type movements wich are not capoeira. Just because someone can do an au sem mao, parafuso or queixada doesn't mean he does capoeira. It is much more than that.

Any time you bring your head down, pivoting on one leg your center of gravtiy changes and its an EASY take down. By the time the kick arrives a good grappler has already shot in and taken you down. I have seen the roda work, as an exhibition its impressive, in terms of fighting its far from it. But I guess that's why those guys are always cleaning up in MMA competitions right?

I was trying to give it proper respect by saying it was an art, but a fighting art? Not a chance.

              ...

I can't believe how misguided you people are. You've been wasting your time doing MT, BJJ, Karate, etc., Capoeira is invicible and if even a beginner in it fought the likes of Royce Gracie, the Gracie would be completely vanquished.

              Later...

Believe me, most of Caposhit iz not practical in real situation.
And Muay Thai fighter can fight against several capoeiristaz and still win
