To get into hitting range, you have to BE in hitting range.
Royce doesnt like to be hit.He has said so in interviews.
If he can shoot and get a takedown without exchanging punches,he is at a total advantage. He is still fresh and has the fight where he wants it.
I think those are very smart tactics.
Also the Kung fu guy was standing sideways which makes it near impossable to sprawl.Royce knew he wasnt a boxer or a wrestler just by his stance.
Once again I have to emphesize that the K.F. guy really showed no skills.
Royce actually looks to me as though he has changed his game since then too.He doesnt try to take such a high mount and keeps it way tighter.
Hence he gains much more control over his opponants. You can see how different he is in the first UFC than from this video.

The ground is my ocean and I am a shark. That is the way BJJ is played.

      exactly bro!
      um.... didnt get schooled?
      1. the kung fu guys aim was to strike him(he didn't)
      2. royce's aim was to take him down(he did)
3.royce could of choked him and triangled him but chose not too so he could inflict a little more pain and embarrassment
4.royce won by STRIKES when he is a grappler.
the voice you hear in the back ground is rorion gracie(creator of U.F.C)
glad you guys liked the clip, will try and post more, cheers.

AHAHAHA dude these are awesome. Now that everyone is doing BJJ in the UFC we kind of forget how effective it really is against other styles. These are great reminders.

Dude was that a(n) [arm] break at the end? Or did they edit that sound into there?

Plus, if it really WAS a break, I think that's kinda dick for the MMA guy to break the kung fu guy's arm like that. Granted it was a challenge match, and there was much to prove, but putting the guy in a sling when it's not neccesary is just plain dick.

                Best regards,

i think it was just some elbow separation.
i agree it was excessive if it was just a "see who's style is better" challenge.
if the kung fu guy came in disrespecting, then he got what was coming to him i.m.o.

I think I remeber this one from a while back. I think the story was that this kung-fu would bet $5,000 that he could beat whomever challenged him as long as they also put up $5,000. Also if I remember correclt this was a truly NHB fight with even eye gouges being legal. I could be wrong, but I think it was this clip.

                        First, Gracilva thanks for links.

Second, he had that arm lock on for a few seconds before you heard the pop, so it's the Kung Fu guys own damn fault for not tapping.

must of dropped his "chi" while stretching
funny how the kung fu guys arn't sending their clips of
"iron bridge tiger claw crouching dragon pissing monkey"
                          moves schooling some grapplers.

here is a tkd vs mt clip, another oldy but goody. enjoy.

                            your welcome amigo.
i agree, but some practioners of other martial arts dont even know about tapping, i didnt when i studied tkd.

personally, i would of said "dude im gonna **** you up if you dont quit right now", then left it up to him(if he didnt know about tapping)or it was a friendly challenge match.

if i didn't like him, i would fully crank the first thing i get hold of.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned (I didn't see it), but the Kung-Fu guy in the first video was Jason Delucia. He fought Royce again in UFC 2. And later trained with the Lion's Den.
I have a video that shows what happened after that fight. It was pretty cool, Rorion and Jason started talking about NHB fights that took place in China town and Rorion asked, "Is there Money to be made?"
At least Jason learned from this fight and began training MMA.
