Royce doesnt like to be hit.He has said so in interviews.
If he can shoot and get a takedown without exchanging punches,he is at a total advantage.He is still fresh and has the fight where he wants it.
I think those are very smart tactics.
Also the Kung fu guy was standing sideways which makes it near impossable to sprawl.Royce knew he wasnt a boxer or a wrestler just by his stance.
Once again I have to emphesize that the K.F. guy really showed no skills.
Royce actually looks to me as though he has changed his game since then too.He doesnt try to take such a high mount and keeps it way tighter.
Hence he gains much more control over his opponants.You can see how different he is in the first UFC than from this video.
