African-influenced, but a Brazilian 'art'. There's a whole story about slavery in early Brazil and all that, a 'creation-myth' to capoera if you will. I can't be bothered to go into it but I'm sure someone will.

Roughly what I know of it is it was a form of martial art developed by slaves (African? Brazilian?).

They wern't allowed, well anything really and were caged and chained. The cages were low height (waist?) so the movement had to take into account all these restrictions.

Also when practising, to hide the fact they were learning to fight they sang and chanted and had 'dance offs' to make it look like a bunch a tribespeople having a singsong.

I hope that makes sense, don't know if its right, the art looks good though!

the portuguese brought african slaves to brazil when they took it over. The slaves from what I heard already had a form of martial art but they were not allowed to use it. They were know for dancing so the portuguese thought dancing didn't do any harm so the slaves devised ways of incorporating strikes and kicks into their moves. Capeoira is not an effective martial art. Their kicks and strikes are fast and fluent but they lack serious power. In fact the story was that it was used in conjunction with blades tied to their feet so that is one reason why it was banned for so long in brazil. that and bjj didn't really come out yet hehe. It is a cool art to learn but don't expect to go to the UFC and expect to win. Wesley Snipes practices it and is a master I think.

I use some of it in my training..... actually it is good for physique, footwork, has some interesting kicks and most importantly teaches how to fight in a relaxed way and is great fun.....

By admitting that you are attracted to Caiopera guys I fear that you have opened up a potential floodgate of emotional bragging from the majority of teenage boys on this forum.

Heres a picture of me on the beach having a topless session

Now it may look to the untrained eye that the banana skin I slipped on is just out of shot.

And heres another to prove I'm not faking it, you will note that this is the same beach on a different day, and on this occasion I was accompanied by my twin brother.
