  • Test Requirements

I didnt kno where to put thsi thread...so i put it under Mixed martial arts.

Anyways....when u take your test to get a higher rank....what are your test requirements>? what do u have to do in order to get a new belt.

Right now...i have to take a written test on a book my master wrote on a subject of his choosing (there are 10 books in this volume that he has written). My master is part of the ACTMA and NCTMA groups if uve heard. When I pass the written test....i get to take teh physical test ,which includes kicking combinations, falling law, applications or forms(for shaolin or Tai chi), and free sparring(we dont hurt each other).

what do ua ll have to do for your tests?

well us, we have to recite the kenpo creed written by mr parker, name some of the quotes and use the synonms for the parts of the body. we also have to be able to perform the kata's learned in the belt level u currently where. and i think with each level u have to run a mile under a certain time and perform a certain amount of exercises and hold the horse stance for a certain amount of time. the time and exercises vary on the belt ur trying to get. that and it costs 50 dollars for a new belt test. and 100 for a blackbelt test then anther 50 for each of the levels in the balck belt..wow...i have lots of work to do

For us you have to get four stripes on your belt (basically pieces of athletic tape on the end of it). The stripes are awarded for the number ot training sessions you are present at. Once you get all four you can be considered for testing. When they feel you are ready you test, you have to know a certain number of attacks and escapes from every position, based on belt level.

The test itself is not that complicated, but they never let anyone test until they are certain you will pass. For those who want a short cut, all you have to do is win a world championship at your belt level in Brazil. Then you are automatically promoted. That's not so hard is it?

We have to go to this particularly dangerous part of town in the middle of the night and take a mugger's wallet. Usually means spending some time in the E.R. afterwards.
When you bring the wallet back to your instructor you get your yellow belt.

            But seriously, folks....

            We are req'd. to meet the requirements for ea. belt level as follows;

            1. Class attendance
            2. Terminology for one's belt level and all levels below
            3. Techniques for one's belt level and all levels below
            4. Forms for one's belt level and all levels below
            5. Board breaking
            6. Free sparring

It becomes progressively more demanding the higher the belt level.
For black belt, in addition to the above, you also have to teach a minimum of two classes, go thru two consecutive training sessions, run five miles, do 100 push-ups, a hundred sit-ups, spar against multiple opponents and break 20 boards in sequence in what can best be described as a choreographed routine. All within about 3 hours.

Oh, and you have to write a thesis. Ugh!

We have no belts and the only test is in the ring. Making it through class without an injury is my only goal each day.

Choked -out-surfer sells a cd that has the requirements for blue and purple belts in BJJ.He posts on the NHBgear forum. He is a machado blackbelt.
I train at Team Quest. We incorporate BJJ into our game ,but we have no B.B. there so we dont recieve belts. We also do no gi and dont train in a gi at all.
