Originally posted by JaredExtremeI have not seen it done, but think about it. It's legal to hold someone's belt, use your own gi to choke, use THEIR gi to choke them, so I do not see why it WOULDN'T be legal.
I did think about it - Using a belt for a throw or to gain position or using the Gi to choke or throw is part of technique. Pulling a Gi oversomone head is not a proper way to show understanding of techinigue it is a gimmick - why not bring pepper spray (which I am sure is not defined specifically as illegal) -spray your opponent -he's blind now so do something and win. Since Smokey stated"legal" and implies this would be a tournament - a grappling tournament it would not be looked at to favorably. Infact, it should also put you in trouble but if somone lets that would be rediculus.

all those things that you stated have some sort of technique. pulling the gi over someone's head is a cowards move, in my eyes. i just started training i have been at it for a few months and this one time my sparring partner decides to pull my gi over my head. i kinda freaked and out of instinct took it off. i was pissed but put my emotions in check. i thought about it afterwards and felt like that was a really cheap move possibly done out of frustration on his part.Originally posted by JaredExtremeI have not seen it done, but think about it. Obviously, I was exaggerating, but making a conceptual point of why that would be ridiculus to pull somone's gi over their head in a match-it simply is unsportsman like.Originally posted by JaredExtremePepper spray is not part of a gi.
Smokey - if this happened while you were rolling in class that's diffeent they guy was probably goofing with you. But grappling you don't need sight every second just sensitivity. He reaches to pull your gi lock him up

but even then the ref would stop the fight and pull the gi off over the head, so then you would never have that kind of unfair advantage.Originally posted by alwaysmixwellyeah i agree its a cheap shot.. I dont think i would ever do it if i were in that situation but then again if you really need the win in competition and thats yer only option then why not. i know i just hyprocized my whole sentance.. haha
