  • Background and general info on instructor needed

I would really like some help finding out some information on an instructor who I have never heard of who claims to be a lot of things. I don’t wanna give to much info on what exactly hes doing, but I would appreciate any info one might have on him. His name is Master or Grandmaster Hai Nguyen and is teaching out of Maryland. I actually was invited to attend one of his classes, and did. During my time of asking general questions of his teaching, he was evasive, and never gave a straight answer. I never really cared about him or what he was teaching, cause it wasn’t my thing, but a turn of events has taken place that has sparked my little investigation with this man. I hope you can help, my thanks in advance.

What art does he teach and what is he claiming? For example....

Any MMA claims can be checked at sherdog.com.

Any federational claims can be checked by looking up the federation.

ITF and WTF are the two prominent TKD schools....
Then there is Machado and Gracie for Jiu-Jitsu, not to mention Leo Xavier.
I mean.... seek and ye shall find. Give me something to work with.

        Info hard to come by...

Thats just the thing, I couldnt get ANY info out of this guy. I had to look at the HUGE 4 year contract he made my friend sign just to see what he claims to be teaching. What he claims to teach is like JKD, wing chun, mauy thai, kung fu, like every art thats not ground fighting. Its weird cause Ive never heard of him in any way good or bad, and I can find nothing about him online. This may just end up as a false advertising thing taken to court, but my friend is paying like 300 per month to this guy, now wants out, but he wont let her stop paying cause of the 4 year contract. He's putting his novice students, that have NO experience, and barely any training up against experienced black belts, or seasoned fighters in tournaments and they are getting hurt! And from what Ive gathered, its cause he claims that in the "Asian Way" is that black belts are for begginers, so he maked them fight black belts of other styles, does this seem logical to anyone?!
Anyway, hope that helps a little, but the more I look the more I think this guys just another money maker.

If he's teaching JKD then I don't know why he'd teach the other arts. People are meshing all ranges into JKD. 300 a month is pretty steep, Ouch! Dial a lawyer if you want out of a contract. And she can inform them the actions they'll be taking. That'll probably change the instructors attitude enough to just let her go.

Wel since he is teaching mostly chinese arts which would have sashes if anything not belts you are right is doesn't make sense. I understanding is in china tradiationally you are either student or teacher.

$300 is rape pure and simple. to make someone sign a contract much less for 4 years before you can even see the sytems speacks to the con game which is [probably why he was so evasive. It is simple if his students are getting hurt it is becuase he is not training hem properly.

What is amazing, and no disrepect to you or your friend, but even today, even with McDojos the MA world is still very small and the general population is still very ignorant of true MAs. I would break the contract, and explain in writing that services were not provided and contact the BBB and report this sorry punk

              Heh

Yeah no disrespect man, the chick is really fast to jump into things that she knows nothing about. The only reason I went for the free lesson, an i figured it couldnt be that bad. Boy was I wrong! She had been there for like 3 months and then invited me. Ive never signed a contract that was more then a month and didnt find out about how much he was charging her, and stuff till now. It really sucks for her, but you know sometimes experience is the only way to learn. Oh yeah and Id choose a McDojo over this guy in a heart beat, hes in a con class all of his own.
