I've noticed that those who complain most vocally about MMA competitions being "just a sport" and 'not a true measure of fighting ability" tend to be those who saw their most favored martial arts brutally crushed by grapplers and wrestlers.
If full contact kicks, punches, submissions and takedowns in a controlled environment against a skilled opponent aren't a valid measure of fighting technique, I'd be interested to see how those should be proven otherwise.
