setting up throws..video recommendation?

I want a tape that spends some time detailing set ups for throws. we all know how to do a shoulder throw..I want a tape that helps me pull it off in sparring.. I _can_ pull it off..I just want to do it better.

Any suggestions for throwing strategy tapes?

Any ever see the Kobushi instructional CD roms? http://www.frontiernet.net/~kobushi/judo.htm

I'm curious if you guys have seen it and liked/hated it..

    Hey Dwayne,

    The tape I'm about to recommend doesn't show any throws (such as the o-goshi or the harai goshi) but does show some nice takedowns, drills to practice these takedowns, etc., the tape is by Erik Paulson and is called Takedowns, Throws, etc. (or something like that) and can be found at www.erikpaulson.com. You might want to get this great book called the Fighter's Notebook, the best mixed martial arts book ever made, which can be found at www.mixedmartialarts.com

      I've seen that on their site (fighter's notebook). I thought about getting it, but I really wanted to look through it first. I've bought several fighting instructional books that have poor explanations and photos. that can get annoying.

      So you're saying you've bought it and you've found it useful? I really liked the look of it. I just wanted to go over it more than their examples allowed for..

        Dwayne, I, and many others, highly recommend this book. If you get it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Great pictures and explanations.

          guru: not the way to do it. everyone in this thread just got an email saying "someone has made a post in this conversation, press here to read it"..and they were sent here..some have slow computers, even, and they are annoyed. This isn't the way to get posts. Noone here cares how many posts are under your name anyway. We like valid useful information and honest opinions.

          stuart: right on. well, it looked good. I'm going to pick it up now.

            Quiet:

            Let us know how you liked it. I wouldn't mind having something like that, too. CD ROM is even better.

              standup

              if you want to work on standup, there are some fine books & tapes out there re: judo and wrestling

              the books from the ippon masterclass series have great info on gi throws;

              "winning wrestling moves" is a good freestyle book;

              there are also judo tapes available via ippon usa.

                        hm. I've decided to go ahead and join the local gracie (rickson gracie) school. It's right down the street from where I work, and they have 6 oclock workouts which means I could go down there and workout each night right after work. I wrote an email asking as to fees (last time I checked they were 90 a month..but for a nightly grappling workout, it's worth it)..and class space..hopefull it's not all full.

                        still gonna pick up that tape and that book....of course.. but maybe they'll be all the help I need with the addition of the classes. i'm pretty excited about this, actually
