Has anybody experience with the SCARS selfdefense system? ( http://www.scars.com )
Is it really as effektive as they claim? How does it work compared to JKD or PFS?

    Yes

I am very experienced with SCARS. I bought the tapes a couple of years back and since then I have been to two semiinars. I even had my photo taken with Jerry Peterson which was a great honor for me.
SCARS believes in auto kinetic responses to certain strikes. Eg: If you kick a man in the balls his chin goes up and his head goes back. If you kick him twice he doubles over and vomits. This is medical fact.
I am yet to find some sucker that wants to take me on but ive done enough practice at the seminars to know the stuff works. I think its better than BJJ or JKD because its easier to learn and its based on medical fact instead of fantasy and mysticism.

SCARS is good for one thing, gaining more scars.

Wandering in other forums, particularly in the JKD community, the topic about SCARS appear quite frankly.

I've never seen scars in action, but the posts in other forum generally dismissed the system as a very basic ensemble of yellow belt kung fu moves put toghether with highly sophisticated phsyco-babble.

The thing that impressed my the most is the assertion that for a specific move (i.e. groin shot) there is a FIXED and immutable reaction.

        That is garbage.

Long time ago I was kicked in the groin with a army boot, I was half drunk and filled with rage, I swear I didn't felt NOTHING after the kick and my reaction was to put my finger on my opponent's eyes trying to poke them out in order to skullf.uck him to death.

So much for the specific response...

Later on I was carried to hospital; but that's another story...

SCARS is basically San Soo from the two videos I have seen. UnderDog pretty much has it right, it is the same old stuff but with long words thrown in. I mean from the videos I saw they were still punching from the hip like the karate kid. As it is, from what I have heard, SCARS was never actually taught to any SEALs but was used to train BUDS students that made it through hell week back in the early eighties, since then it has been dropped by the Navy. Most SEALs do not train H2H very much and often train on there own in some martial art, but it is really up to there CO on what, where and who he wants to train them for H2H combat. BTW, I have to agree again with Underdog about this fixed reaction BS, I have seen people hit point blank straight in the jaw without giving any reaction besides kicking the person's ass that hit them in the first place. Science my ass.-ED

                  Hey Underdog, what's up?

I foolishly bought the SCARS videos and its like that old phrase, "if is sounds to good to be true, it probably is." There is no one perfect fighting art, that can be learned instantly and is effective against anything.

                    Underdog,

A nice phrase from "Full Metal Jacket" no doubt. I'm on to you......

Hey lacrymosa, I stole the quote from an old book by Mark Animal McYoung, I didn't know it belonged to the Kubrick movie...

Mako, I set only his hairs on flame; and he was a damned psyco...

Stuart: I agree with you; the real matter is a marketing one: trying ti sell water with the label "THE ULTIMATE ANTI-THIRST-DEVICE, SOLD ONLY TO SPECIALWARFARE GROUPS" bothers me...

He, he, glad to be on the forum again...

Scars may not be the best system but it is far from the worst.

Puh-leeze. The SCARS guys doing the planted question on the board yet again. Transparent.

And don't you encourage them, Shimotion Lotion.

Underdog: I will never get tired of hearing the setting-the-guy-on-fire story, LOL.
