Well there is no better marketing for a thing called shredder than making up a story about a bjj blackbelt coming in and everyone "shredded" him all over the place
Yeah I must admit that was the part about senshido that kept me reading on. The phycological part of fighting is one that MANY martial arts neglect, and it impressed me that they realized that fighting smart is fighting well. I've lost count of the many times ive seen a good martial artist be in a street conflict oblivious of what to do. Those tapes on senshido may be benificial, if you were to recommend one or two out of the entire collection of about 3 three thousand videos ( There isn't that many but it's getting pretty damn close) which ones would they be?
If you already train in something, then I would recommend the Shredder Package. It provides an excellent "add on" to your current fighting style (whatever that may be).
His first 4 tapes (available in a boxed set) are excellent too, and can take a near beginner through some great lessons, as well as complementing the knowledge of a more experienced fighting ats student.
Why not email the guy personally? He is very approachable.
Maybe I will do that, but the ones I thought looked good were numbers 1 2 and 3, and the ones about taking down those bigger than you. Common weapons defense might prove to be essential too, and the shredder tactics, can you give me a brief, well if you want a thorough explination of what it is because from where I stand it seems like eye gouging and nut twisting tactics. I do not want to jump to a conclusion about something I barely know of so please, inform me.
I forget to inform you that today I made my descision to move on from TKD. I feel that I have taken in everything I possibly could from the art, and now that I have gained some flexibility and foot control, I am ready for bigger things. As much as I loved attending the school two 45 minute classes a week really doesn't cut it for me. When i'm not in the dojang I'm thinking of the dojang and I hunger to learn more. That's why I've made my descision to move on to another martial art style, or styles as I may soon find out. Im still looking for instructional videos though. I live in the Toronto area, does anyone know of any Muay Thai or BJJ Dojo's in the area?
CKD - I have merely done one seminar with Dimitri, and studied a few of his tapes. After 25 years in martial ats and 18 years in policing I reckon he is the real deal. We shall agree to disagree.
wardancer - look me up if you are ever in the UK. You will see how frightened I am of "sparring". That is not a threat. We could train together in a friendly way. But a word of warning. Don't go into the Senshido HQ and spout your silliness. I reckon Richard may offer a similar deal but, since he deals with challenges on a regular basis, he may not be as benevolent as I. He would rip you to pieces my friend.
So we have done one seminar with Dimitri: so what?
Bought his tapes: so what?
Are you are a policemen in UK? That I have to admire.
I do not encourage avelocci to take up senshido because it likes JJJ: full of techniques that do not work just because you cannot train it on full force day after day against an opponent. I did not invented that system: Kano did by creating Randori.
I did not see the point for him to give up on a competitive TKD that use full contact sparring in order to sort out who is the winner.
However, he wants more to it and seek out opinions.
I did see the senshido website and I have a lot of issues with it.
After reading your posts, I really thought that the website was going to be some real MMA stuff but to the contrary.
It does market for people that are scared almost borderline to new age philosophy (e.g the zombie squad) and is full of CULT DOCTRINE STUFF.
It is not MA techniques but more about how to live your life according to so and so.
Some people have great Charisma and it will attract 'blind' followers, only real MA figther will follow proven great fighters and not cults and their dammed Gurus.
Do not blow in somebody else trumpet, it only diminishes your credibility!
Why would I go to the Senshido HQ for anyway?
Name one of your Senshido fighters (if there is such a term?) that actually do fight in any MMA events?
So what if you want to scare me about that Richard? Has he fought in MMA events?
If it is not the case, I do not care. He is of no use for me and people that want to learn the REAL stuff.
Once again, you just go back to that stupid MA attitude that you spend so much time critising (and I did admire you for that even if I like to play the devil's advocate to see how much points/experience you have to back up your arguments): you want to say My Master can be you beat any time!
Grow up!!!!!!!!
And if young avelocci read your post, he will just realize your input is LAME.
In case, you are confused, this is MMA/BJJ Forum. Go back to to your Senshido Forum and go scare some MA newbie about your MA Guru.. You claimed 25 years in MA, so you might be around your early 40's, stop living under others doctrines. Those days are long gone.
We have MMA cage fighting in New Zealand and that where I want go to.
I will return you the favour and if you come to New Zealand, you are welcome to visit me at the club where I train. www.etk.co.nz. You should find all the details about the adress and opening hours. Vale Tudo rules?
Thanks for the invitation who knows, I will need some adress (location) where I can find you?
Cheers.
P.S on the lighter note, the Poms are going to tour N.Z. Rugby of course..my company/work invited me to watch the test in Auckland but I have a BJJ training that day.

Sincerly,
Andrew Velocci
Hi Andrew,
C'est la vie.
I did my break away in Karate long ago and moved on also. There should be be some good Dojos around for what you need.
Good luck with your research.
Keep me posted,
Cheers
When did I ever say that Senshido has anything whatsoever to do with Mixed Martial Arts?
By the way, I did see the guy say "Who would consider themselves to be a good grappler". A few people put their hands up, and Richard picked the biggest. The guy had 7 years grappling experience. Richard says "Take me down as hard and as fast as you want to, any way you can".
The guy went at it like a train. Yes, he took Richard down. And in the blink of an eye Richard was on top and the guy beaten. He let him have another go too. This time the guy did better, but the end result was the same.
Now Richard did this by using both grappling AND the Shredder. Like I said, the Shredder is an "add on", it is not a complete system in itself.
I am 40 years of age. I have seen a great many fighters and styles. I do not give my endorsement cheaply, and forum members will tell you that I have a LOT of bad things to say about the fighting arts.
But that Shredder is as important to self defence as any grappling move or any punch/kick/strike.
You have to see it to understand. Its a bit like the wheel. It is so fluckin obvious.... ut only after someone else invented it. Take it or leave it mate!
Isn't shredder releasing the inner warrior? I had the conception that it worked with the belief that everyone has the fighting spirit in them. They just have to learn how to use it.
The Shredder is a pretty simple technique in which you "shred" your attackers skin. You basically use your hands as claws to tear the skin on there face. There are other uses but that is probaly the most basic.
CKD AND Andrew - you have both described a tiny portion of what the Shredder may entail.
As regards tearing of the skin? Yes and no. It is partly that, but much much more. It involves tears, but also strikes, gouges, pokes, bites, elbows, knees, head butts......... and also a generous helping of head and neck manipulations at the same time.
Like I said, you have to see it (or, even better, feel it) to understand.
