  • schools in the bay area?

    Hey guys,

Anyone have any schools to recommend on the west bay area CA? As in between San Jose and Daly City (SF is a little too far)
I've looked at Claudio França BJJ so far.

www.bjj.org will list a bunch of schools that you can check out.

I can personally speak for two of them. I highly recommend Marco Nascimento. He is a black belt and very very good and an awesome teacher. I went to his school to shoot an interview and demo for an upcoming DVD we're releasing, and when I asked him for a demo, this guy just went from one move to another and another, he was awesome to watch and extremely technical. That school is in San Carlos. His english isn't that great, but he was really able to break moves down. He's also got a brown belt there with him. Side Note: A lot of people on the internet really like Micheal Jen's BJJ instructionals because of how detailed they are. Well Marco showed him a lot of his stuff and is a big reason why Micheal Jen's teaching methods are so highly respected.

Another school is in El Cerrito, and it's run by Rinaldo Santos, a Carlson Gracie black belt. We also went to his school to shoot a segment for our DVD and he was a very nice guy and it seemed like a pretty serious school. Very well spoken guy. They were training for a tournament when I went though, but it just had a certain vibe to it that made it seem a little more seriouss. You can check him out at www.rinaldosantos.com
If you check either one of them out, tell them RMOVideo sent you.

You can e-mail us if you have any other questions too.

I'd like to add that in Daly city, Jake Shields teaches MMA at the Fairtex Academy. So there you can do that and Muay Thai if you like. Also, Marco Nascimento's place is split with a Muay Thai gym so you could have access to doing both. If you care to do any no gi jiujitsu, Jake Shields is a good place to do. He's under Cesar Gracie and has worked a lot with Chuck Liddell. He's one of the top ranked guys in the world at his weight.
