I heard someone say it is another word for old style judo. They have lots of mma fighters and a student of kimura has that listed as his style on sherdog so I am guessing it could be old style judo. Anyone have anymore info?

Here is a link on sherdog http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/f...utsu+Keisyukai The people come from different schools called wajyutsu keiyukai tokyo or Osaka but the all list wajyutsu as there style as well as there organazation. I know that it is probaly a style because they have a instructional video on wajyutsu in Japan. What makes me believe that is an older style of Judo was that Nishi, who is part of the team and lists wajyutsu as his style, was the best student of kimura. The same one that beat Helio.

That's right. I remember when Nishi fought Rickson in round 1 of the Japan Open 10 years ago. People made a big deal of the fight and it was sort of the same situation as Royce-Yoshida, as far as the Judo vs. GJJ theme. Rickson handled Nishi but Nishi was supposed to be one of the best who learned from Kimura.

wa jitsu like yawara are other names for ju jitsu, Wa meaning Peace or harmony
The terms Ju, Wa and Ai ( from Aiki) are all relating to the same principle
Even the term yoshin in the style name relates to that ( means willow)
SO Wajitsu is not a seperate art nor is it really a style, it is ju jitsu

Again with words... I'm bad at English so you can imagine my pathetic efforts at Japanese! On the subject of "Ju" it can IMHO apply to the concept of adaptability. Willow being famous for bending without breaking under great force...I'll need to do some research but my first guess is without a Ryu-ha, it's still Judo, not Ju-jitsu... Draeger has a good article about the Kanoan intent of old style Judo-Waza and the meaning of Ju. here>> http://www.judoinfo.com/kata.htm
Knowledge is everywhere, the wisdom to apply it is rare. in the words of Darwin, "Tis is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but
the one most responsive to change." Adaptability!
