Just a random thought, but I think a tough BJJ/submission grappling class is the best overall workout.
I've done a lot of different activties from running, basketball, kickboxing, biking, weight lifting, swimming, and even bowling
but nothing compares to grappling.
I know that interval training is the key to better body performance, and it seems that the type of workout that you get with grappling (aerobic plus anaerobic) is awesome and unique among physical activities.
I still run up to a 10k, but doing BJJ only three times a week is what really keeps my in shape and gets results with losing weight and building strength.
Does anyone know if there have been any studies concerning BJJ or grappling? I know that there have been a number for running, swimming, etc. for how many calories they burn, their overall effect on the metabolism, and other areas of interest.
Any thoughts?
