But judo is not the all end in stand up grappling as you seem to suggest.Wrestlers have done well and sambo players could stand up with the judo players and really revoulutionized judo.
Not unique at all. When I practiced Judo we spent most of the first 6 months dooing only ground work, starting from a knee standing position and not beeing allowed to stand up at all. And as far as I know most schools do the same around here. This is in Sweden though, so things may be different here then in the US.

I was in a bookstore and saw the Gracie JJ book on self-defense and thought it might be interesting so I thumbed through it. Even though I have great respect for BJJ and the Gracie’s I found their book on SD laughable. Many of the techniques put the user at greater risk than he was before. Some others are okay but there are far better techniques out there. Needless to say I was disappointed and did not purchase the book.

I looked through that book too. Lots of fancy wristlocks. The bjj self defense techniques are not the best.

i have currently just started training in both, Muay Thai, and Brazillian jui jitsu, and i have just witnessed a street fight, and ofcourse street fights are never fair, it was about 15 people boot stomping 1 person, and i was wondering if id be able to take on multiple opponents with my combination of MT and BJJ

bjj wont help u there but mt might. if there kinda weak opponets and u could drop em fast with power moves, or try and immobilize them with hard leg kicks and keep moving mabye u can take multiple opponents. howver dont worry so much about multiple opponents cause the fact is if u can run away from em, u prob wont have much of a chance anyway so w/e.

i was also thinking, with the conditioning in muay thai, my body might be able to stand alot of punishment which might be helpful in a multple opponent situation..

Heed Uncle Corny's words. Neither BJJ or MT or any MA will help you much against 15 opponents. Some people look/treat to MA as the answer to street-proofing themselves and making them invulnerable to attacks - DON"T.

                        Here's how u handle 15 opponents:

-make sure u have 15 in the clip
-when was the last time you clocked yourself running the 400 dash?
-don't start shite with people unless you got people to watch your 6 (that's back)
                        -yell out you've got AIDS

Seriously though, you might be able to handle 15 guys if they attack you one at a time like in the movies, but if they bum rush you, your toast.

fighting on the street is so unpredictible, I seen someone get hack up, moet bottles up side the head (never seen anyone shot thank god), jumpings, hit with safety cones, as I get older I learned by saying chill, and you got that homey works best

                              To warriors13...

Which one do you like?.. Which one excites you just with a passing thought?

Which one speaks to you? ...streetfighting is a philosophical dead end, just train and love it!
