  • Enough about you....

    Let's talk about me!---EDDIE BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Seriously, has anyone seen Eddie's twister DVD? Holy Crap, what a cocky SOB. I hope Royler doesn't watch it...(to take from the seagal classics..)

"one day, "eddie's" smart mouth is gonna get the rest of his body in a whole lot of trouble"!

He better tone it down a notch..IMO

Eddie was sparkin' on the underground about Royler after the match. He apparently didn't take kindly to Royler's comments which were along the lines of "everyone makes mistakes and can be beaten."

He went on to challenge Royler, on the web no less, to a rematch and even stated that he'd do MMA against Royler.

Of course he later recanted and said everything waas cool between him and Royler . . . and then the Twister was released.

*grabs popcorn, large soda, sits back in chair and waits to see Eddie explode*

      LMAO!!!

Eddie seems really immature to me at this point..but alot of guys from Rigan's and Jean Jacques make special trips to his 10th planet jiu-jitsu to train, so I guess he can teach. Even John Will in Austrailia likes him.

I just think he milked the royler thing way too much.

        Milked it too much?!

Come on man! Eddie got his blackbelt because of that match (he was a purple before the ADCC qualifiers, a brown in the match with Royler, and a black soon there after), he opened a school because of that match (10th planet, supposed to be a cool place), and now he's selling DVD's because of that match (twister).

        I say "GO EDDIE!"

Seriously, he dates better looking women than you or I could afford and apparently they let him run a tab.

Eddie is supposed to be a decent guy and I'm happy for him and his success.

The one thing that bothers me is that he talks alot about the inferiority of BJJ compared to submission grappling and then he still professes his loyalty to Jean-Jacques and will always train with a Gi at Jean-Jacques. Perhaps he doesn't see the duplistic nature of his actions, but I do. Does it really bother me? No, it just seems "hinky."

What?! I thought you were on my side. Yea, I think he got lucky, we all have had our on days and off days. Lord knows, if I blew up talkin smack and opening my own academy for everytime I got lucky and tapped a good blackbelt, I'd have alot of enemys.

I mean it is cool and congrats to him, but humility and gratitude would've gone alot farther in my book, and I really don't think its a feat that could ever be duplicated, and I know Royler isn't happy about his mouth; so if they ever have to meet again, I think Royler will "drag him through the garden of pain, before putting him to bed".

I also REALLY agree with you on the submission grappling thing, but it actually does bother me a little bit. I believe in the gi, and I don't think you can really reach your full potential in no gi..without having suffered in a gi. All the great no gi champs are classic gi wearin' BJJ'ers--I hate guys that learn a few foot locks and some wrestling and then create their own "combat grappling" or whatever!

            Ouch! (on the Bayless thing)

Bayless actually gave it all up for a few years and moved to NYC to be an artist. He's back in Utah now and is grappling with a couple of local fighters (including Jeremy Horne . . . yes, that Jeremy Horne).

And I am with you on Eddie. I think he talked WAY TOO MUCH SH*T, but I still think he pulled off something incredible. And while I don't see him EVER entering another tournament I wish him all the success in the world. In the end, he's part of the Machado family . . . and I trust Rigan's judgement enough that I can't talk too much sh*t.

My background is in Wrestling, which is why I am all top game, but Jiu-Jitsu is where my heart is. I had a preview with Professor Sauer, Mike gave me a little more, and now (since I started working with Jeff Kunze) I am officially a BJJ zealot.

Lord knows, if I blew up talkin smack and opening my own academy for everytime I got lucky and tapped a good blackbelt, I'd have alot of enemys.
Sheesh, how many have you tapped out?

Yea, I always get a little a light headed when I come back from LA.......

Also, the whole point is that I can't tell you how many I've tapped or I would be as bad as Eddie, there was this one though, that I got right in front of Rigan with a triangle/armlock ,and that felt good!

                    Just a lowly, lowly cook.

---No, I've been a purple for a while, hope the brown is on the horizon, but seriously...
                    absolutely no rush!

I like the 10 year plan and I've been doing it about 6 years, so purple is just right. I really do think that it should be a slow, meticulous process. If you read last months grappling with Vitor on the cover, they did an interview with Rodrigo Medieros, and he said it took him 14 yrs to get his black. He went on to talk about, you know, how much merit can a blackbelt really have when you've gotten it 3 years...

This is actually a really interesting topic, IMO no matter how physically gifted you are, like a BJ Penn or something, Maybe you can tap Blackbelts, but how much wisdom can you really have compared to a guy who trained hard for 14 yrs. I mean that's the guy that I'd want to learn from. So that's my goal, I am mcuh more interested in being a GREAT teacher, than the baddest fighter around...though I do believe that the 2 go somewhat hand in hand...BUT I think you can train to be a great jiu-jitsu ARTIST or be sport specific and train to be a great jiu-jitsu ATHLETE, and the two aren't necessarily the same.

The Greats are both, like Rickson, Rigan or Jean Jacques, I also really admire Genki Sudo.

                    Thoughts?

I f*ckin' LOVE watching Genki Sudo!

I honestly love my blue belt and hope that I get to keep it for a while, which is quite probable considering that my knee needs a rebuild.

Personally, I just love Jiu-Jitsu. I don't care about the belt acquisition hoo-ha that so many other guys (more so in other styles -- non-Jiu-Jitsu) are fascinated by. Jiu-Jitsu has a rhythym, a feel, that nothing else matches and after 20 years studying other styles I have a right to make that statement.

Have you read the "Gracie Way"? When it comes to humility the Gracies are a little short themselves, so don't hate on Eddie. I'm not saying he didn't get lucky because I believe he did, but if the shoe where on the other foot they would have acted like it was the greatest thing that has happened since the world began. People are slowly catching up with the Gracies(with the exception of Rickson, that dude is scary as hell) so I figure you will periodically see someone that you didn't expect beat a Gracie, but 9 out of 10 times the Gracie would win. If you are the dude that gets lucky enough to tap a Gracie once you'd be telling anyone that would listen, so I can't be mad at Eddie for talking a little.
