Havent been to any competitions, my instructor is a brown belt under Rodrigo Mederios & just placed 5th in his division at the Mundials... Didnt know the only way to get better & move up in rank is to compete. From what i've read the average amount of time to get a blue belt in Brazil is 6 months , if you're training 3-5 times a week. ""shrugs""

You might have a different promotion requirement as I do.
I train with Brazilians and I have never heard of 6 months blue belts: more like 3 years.
But there is exeptions in my club, I have my friend professionnal Kickboxer 120 kg cut training 4 times a week and beating people in open competition in his weight category being promoted to Blue after 1 year.

In our club, the criteria for blue means that you know and can apply the basic techniques along with being able to "hang' with the Blues in your club. A blue just means you're not a novice anymore and that you're ready for the UFC. But seriously, I was being considered for a blue after 2 months of solid training (I have a shootfighting background). I was improving quickly, hanging with some Blue's (read stalemating or tapping later in the rounds), and I knew the basics. I was happy with the news but in my heart of hearts I knew I wasn't ready - I'm still working on and wrapping my head around "position over submission." So I asked for being considered for some stripes because the last thing I need is to have every white belt gunning for me and every Blue/Purple punishing me.
Big ups anakin and respec!

I didn't get my first stripe until about 6 months in. Of course, I was only training 2-3 times per week. If someone were training as hard Anakin, two stripes in 4 months is perfectly fine IMO.

No,
2 stripes in 4 months with no competition to back up such promotion is no good.
In the case of ronson, with grappling experience, it is different.

Promotions
Wardancer,
Why do you think it's not a good idea for anakin to have been promoted. Maybe he/she is gifted athletically and works hard on technque?
I just started with Relson Gracie Academy in the Bronx New York been here for less than a month - I've only done freestyle grappling and hold a Nidan in aikijiujitsu prior to joining. I know submission but just didn't know how the "Gracie's" did it. I love the training.
congrats to you Anakin

Stripes aren't that big a deal. I know that BJJ is one of the hardest MA to obtain rank in, but couldn't stripes on a white belt serve the same purpose in BJJ as giving out belts on any other MA? It shows that you've learned something and it keeps you comin back and worker harder for the next promotion.
If he said something like "just got my blue belt after 2 months" then maybe it would be wrong.

Most schools don't even do stripes anymore...
My transition to bluebelt was almost like the true old, oldschool way of belts...I had that white belt for so long, it turned grey, then kinda green, then dingy brown, Hell I was almost a "blackbelt" when I finally got my blue!

IMO there is way too much "hype" on belts who cares if your a blue belt if a white belt can beat you lol. I think people should respect the persons individual skill level, and not just say "oh hes a blue belt" which happens a lot. but i do see where belts can be a means of modivation for people in eaither respect if youve been training hard and learning your moves congrats
