  • The past three months of nothing.

    Hey all,

It's been about three months since I've set foot on the mat and I'm finally eager to resume training again. For those of you "oldschoolers" who were around when I was posting regularily, you might've noticed that I was a bit disheartened by the whole BJJ thing. It happened from accidentally injuring my training partners on two consecutive sessions on the mat.

Recently, my wife and I trekked to California where I was grappling with some of my younger and more athletic cousins in Watsonville. Despite me being three months out of it and slightly more out of shape, I noticed that moving with these guys was next to effortless.

That's where I once again realized that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gave me something special.

    Anyhow, I digress........

I have a technical question. While grappling with these cousins, I noticed that I stumbled upon a version of the triangle that better suited my short legs. In the standard triangle, I had a thigh between his head and shoulder, but I found that if I moved my CALF between his head and sholder, while positioning my hips more to his side, I also got a firm lock, similar to the original triangle.

So it looks a little like this: Left calf between his neck and shoulders, right leg over his back and wrapped around the left foot (like a standard triangle), with the opponent's arm and shoulder "trapped" in the triangle. I also noticed that an armbar could easily be performed if he tried to escape.

My question to the experienced forum members that are still around is: does this technique have an official BJJ name?

I think there are slight variations of just about everything.
I have found that a triangle put on backwards works on some guys when a normal triangle wont.
