I'm just starting out in MMA (see "Starting out in MMA") and would like to know if anyone can refer me to some good beginner material regarding the language and theory of MA/MMA. Links, books, whatever. All responses are appreciated.

As far as language in MA/MMA goes there are two types of authors out there (and Mike Brewer has talked about this extensively in one of his recent posts). There are the guys who talk alot and use rediculously overly complex terms to make themselves sound important and then there are guys who just say "do this, this, and this." There may be a few in the middle but they are rare.
Personally, I think the best books on the market right now are Jiu-Jitsu or submission grappling books and they all have on thing in common. Kid Pelligro. Whether its Jean Jacques book, The Royler Gracie submission grappling book, or one of a few others, Kid's books are almost always fairly well organized (their great with content on the individual page and somewhat questionable on a page to page basis).
I haven't seen what I'd call a great Muay Thai book.
When it comes to JKD, Ron Balicki's book does a better job, of discussing an extremely broad subject within a limited space, than any other book that I have seen in years. His mass attack section is fantastic, the best stuff printed on the subject.
I hope that helps.

A guy could do alot worse than the recent armbar series of videos by Igor Yakimov...
I havn't seen them but they come highly recomended by some top guys in the industry. I've been told they are the best available on the subject.

For real true learning from a book, which is very hard to do..IMO there is absolutely no better series out there than John Will's books. Now I won't really try to comment on striking material, there are others who can make much better reccomendations than I...But I know my BJJ. If you want to learn GOOD BJJ from a book..John's are the way to go.
