  • combat sambo

I recently went to visit a tae kwon do school to look at their new class that they were teaching on combat sambo. There was a young man that was a teenager that had a black belt that was teaching the class. I asked him how long did it take to get a black belt in combat sambo. He told me one year. He had to do to a few seminars and view a few videos and got his black belt in combat sambo. I asked him how come it only took you a year. His answer whose that he thinks because he is a black belt in tae kwon do. He said that he was a certified teacher in combat sambo. I know that it takes years of training for many people in martial arts to get a black belt. Maybe I'm wrong but I decided to look someplace else for training because of his lack of experience. Any comments from anybody?

1 year is way too short. Tae Kwon do and Sambo have few things in common, basically the only thing is that sambo has a few tkd kicks. Having a blackbelt in tkd would not translate to sambo. It sounds like a mcdojo trying to make some money off exotic sounding arts and the reality based and grappling/mixed ma craze. If you want to learn sambo I might be able to direct you to a school. Does the school you are talking about have a website? That would be interesting to see.
