That there are some basic tai chi techniques that requires no circular movements to defend one self. That is all.

Ok, but still photos can't really show the presence or absence of circular movement very well, right?

Very few movements in taijiquan really move along a strictly non-circular line.

it did when I was playing. My coaches told me to drop and pinch into the opposing linemen's calves with my knees and elbows on passing plays, and sweep 'em...it worked. Kindy sheisty...but it worked.

It was something different. If you are trying to shoot a double, instead of tackling a fullback running through the line you will end up on your ass.

          It's a misunderstanding of terms.

Well, I am not saying that there isn't circular movement in the art at all. I am just saying that there are many effective techniques from Tai Chi that doesn't require circular movement from an application standpoint.

I wasn't talking about sacking the ballhandler, I was talking about cheap-shotting the opposing linemen. I would also try and punch them in the solar plexus under the pads, and I would trap their arms too. All of these things were fucked up, and all were taught to me by my coaches.

Ok, are you saying that what your football coaches and your wrestling coaches taught you was the exact same thing in the way that you are referring to it now?

I think this is a matter of semantics, and I can't be bothered. I've got more important things to drink...I mean do...

no. It wasn't a double leg takedown in wrestling, jiu jitsu, or csw terms...but it was a takedown, and it did involve taking out both legs.
whatever's cleaver, right? names names names, bla bla bla...

I never said there are no circular movement in the entire system. I am saying the self defense that I was shown had no circular movements at all.

look, another thread stating which styles are good and which "suck" from the most unbiased source. Im so suprised to find that here. Listen, all styles have ssomething to bring to the table, even if you think it is useless. Every time this thread starts it ends in a my dad could beat up your dad (which he could. . . seriously) and its kind of aggravting. Instead of saying judo is stupid cuz you dont wanna wrestle on the street, why not provide a point? Why wouldnt you want to wrestle on the street? If thats what your proficient at, why not put into practice what you've been training.

                            Thats what i think
