  • Judo or Wrestling - Positional dominance/throws?

I was just wondering if someone can clear something up for me. I'm looking for an art that has both stand up throwing/take downs & grappling. My two options right now are Judo or Wrestling. I'm not worried about submissions right now. I just first want to learn throws[I can learn for the ring & street], take downs, and a grappling art that would allow me to have positional dominance when grappling. Keeping this in mind, what would you suggest would be a better option for me, Wrestling or Judo?

from what you've described you're looking for, i'd say wrestling. even better would be to find some like-minded wrestlers there and see if they want to train submissions with you.

I would agree. It does depend on what is available where you are. A good MMA school would have all these. Some bjj schools address throws well. Some don't however. You have to do your homework. Wrestling would certainly be helpful.

jiu jitsu is throws. judo is the sports version of ju jitsu with shot to bjj and now that's a sport but it came from the same shit and can be made street with a flick of a switch.

jiu jitsu is good cause you can ground it in all angles..

wrestling gives you base, td defense, .. it's on the teachers too. if they teach basic take downs and shoots, then that's what your getting. alot of wrestling shi.t is used in bjj and is perm in the training.

i say jiu jitsu and take a boxing art because not knowing stand up will be a hole in your game.
