I've read "The Facts" everywhere, and never are they the same. Some say 90% of all fights end on the ground, 60% of all fights end on the ground, A good striker finishes 90% of his fights on his feet, "The FBI says", "The CIA says".... Never are these facts, they are just opinions.
If you read the Violence Report I posted up, he said only 38% of all the fights he recorded went to the ground. Personally I grapple much more than strike in friendly fights, but if it's the real deal I'm going full out

Koto, I have not read those violence reports. Would you mind posting the link again?

Also, Gregimotis. I tried being as fair as possible. The range goes from 10% - 100%. Nothing against grapplers at all. I am not being biased. I'm just wondering of the people on this forum, how many have had their fights end on the ground. If you can think of a suggestion to how I could make this more fair, I am open to that. Perhaps I missed something. However, a pure boxer with no grappling skills whatsoever could end up in a wrestling match, break free and pumble a guy, or he could lose on the ground, or 100 other results. But if the fight ended on the ground...it ended on the ground.

        Violence report

Took me a while but I finally found and read that violence report. 38% but that also included fights that ended in the clinch. I bet that number would be far less if he counted the clinch as a stand-up fight.
89% lasted less than a minute. That makes since to me. He also stated that demographics might make the outcomes a little different. I dont know about that. He recorded over 1000 street fights for his study, using all different types of people. Seems like a very broad study to me. Good post.

This is not the same as if someone gets KO'd and falls to the ground.
It is not the same thing as if someone slips and stands back up.
It is not the same if someone holds someone up while hitting them.
It is also not the same as if two people go to the ground but both stand back up and finish the fight standing.

The fight must END on the ground.
I have one thing I need to disagree with here. A ground fight where people end up standing back up is STILL a ground fight. The fact that someone got back up either means one person is really good at striking or escaping, or the other person sucks at grappling. Still though, any fight where one person is on the ground and isn't out cold is a case where ground fighting ability can help them out.

And that's accounted for in the Violence Report, still at only a meager 38% for any kind of grappling or floor fighting.

Street Fighters- usually ko' em. I go to the ground when I want..

Real fighters. - all the time depending.. I usually am a striker first..
Stay up, defend the takedown, and punish.

I've never been on the ground in my early dayz.. especially in hood fights where going on the ground is considered bitch made. you hit the ground the homies would stop it and pick you up. boxing has a big influences in the hispanic community. An Honor thing you can say. ammoung us i let it be known that i'm gonna fight you not box you. I make it clear that it's where ever the fight lands.. and there it is there.

I remember this guy tried to sucker punch me and i judo flipped him and cut his head on the ground. i mounted and a homie tackled me off right away. I didn't even get a chance. to finish him.

No, I think it's pretty fair and it's an interesting idea for a post, too. I only made those comments to (hopefully) lend another 'angle' to the conversation. It's easy for threads to become 'either/or' arguments.

If it was an "arm" punch, it could happen. Fights were two dudes desperate to slug each other impatiently throw their fists in any manner possible. one of those punches might give a bruise.

Military combat training trains you to keep the fight standing up.

Just because someone tells me that 90% of fights end up on the ground it doesn't mean to say that I will believe him. I'm not about to take his word over my own experience which there is a lot of.
