  • Why do we need even more belts????

I've just got back into Ju-Jitsu to find that they have split each belt syllabus in half, meaning before you can pass a belt you have to pass part A first then months later move to Part B. Now for as long as Britain was teaching Bushido Ju-Jitsu before maybe for about 30 odd years the old system was working fine, why now have they decided to change it. All this is going to do is make students pay even more money staying at the club, and its just going to take longer to get the next belt. I can't believe money is such a key factor in the arts now, its getting out of hand.

I can't see why the instructors can't toughen up the graddings so if you pass a belt it means that you have earned the right to wear it. Not because you have been at the club for long enough and the sensi feels you should have it. I've seen too many people holding belts they don't deserve. All this is doing is lowering the standard of the desiplines, soon wearing a high belt wont mean anything.

Anyone who thinks martial arts isn't a "Business" is wrong....Schools open to make money for whatever organization the represent. Why? So they organization can say they have trained x many students, in x many schools, in x many countries...

Based on some organizations numbers, it would seem that every other person in the world is a black belt in some form of martial arts.

Not all jujitsu schools operate that way. I would search for another school. Have you ever tried small circle jujitsu? Professor Leon Jay (son of Wally Jay) Has several locations in that area.
