Anyone know a good site where I can get some info on Shui Chaio?

What are your thoughts on the Chinese grappling art?

    Good luck

I've posted the same question on several boards with very little response.

      Hey,
      Thank you very much.

Is the style not well known to people maybe?

      Thanks again.

Shuai Chiao is pretty rare, but it is a damn good art. It is mainly throws (that HURT!). It is similar to judo but also has certain techniques that resemble wrestling. A lot of San Shou fighters use shuai chiao for their takedowns and their transition from striking to throwing is very smooth and powerful. Being a judo but, I think you'd really like it, Ryu.

Adding on to what Max said: The main differences between Judo and Shuai Chiao as I've seen them are,
                1. The handles tend to be parts of the body as opposed to clothing. This could be a wrist, neck, under the armpits, etc.
                2. It seems to be more vicious. A lot of the techniques that were sanitized in Judo are still in the original application in Shuai Chiao. Of course, this is both good and bad as you can't do those in randori type practice.
                3. Shuai Chiao of course, has a more Chinese feel to it.

I've been doing it for about 6 months now under a student of a student of Dr. Brian Wu. I love it, it's vicious, painful, and I'm already becoming somewhat competant in a few techniques. It added a whole new dimension to my Taiji and fits in perfectly with no gi BJJ. I know there is a qualified "master" in Austin, TX. you can find him on the combat Shuai Chiao site I listed above. Again, get the tape. It shows about 15 basic standing postures, or stances and tells you how to train them. It then shows how to use that posture in fighting. There are about 3-4 variations of throws for each posture. Each throw is shown 3-5 times at various angles and in slow motion. I used paypal to order it and received it in about a week.

Go for it Ryu. Go compete in the Shui Chao championships in China. If you win you can come back and all the major MA magazines will be knocking on your door to have you write articles based on your vast grappling experience and maybe you will then be ready to train with the likes of Crotch.

                        Wow ...

That forehead push technique looks like it takes years of dedicated training to master.

Anything to do with grappling, I look into.
Water Dragon thanks for the pix and links.

My style is clinching, slamming, and pinning. I don't want to hurt someone if I don't have to (unless it's members of this forum)
That's why my main stuff is judo, collegiate wrestling, and BJJ.
One of those throws looked somewhat similar to judo's ushiro goshi. One of my favs, and one I have pulled off numerous times.

Mr. Miyagi, can I interest you in the secret to gaining "combat abs"? I have invented a wheel-like mechanism that trains them, and no one else has the idea but me. You should invest.

                            Ryu,
i've seen a demostration on Shui Chaio in paris last year i belive.
I was pretty cool, if you have the change to train in it, go for it.
The throw seemed brutal like, i have seen in sambo matches.
Not realy ment for judo mats.

                            Go for it

                            But practice youre ukemi

Oh I'm not thinking of actually competing in it! Or switching my training either. I was just curious.

I will stick with judo and such right now.
