HI, I was wondering what everyone thinks of capoeira? I view it as really fun to watch, but it's it actually stable to use on street?
Thanks
It's a blast, you'll have a ton of fun using it. As for street effectiveness, not really, not until you train very long and hard in it. I had a friend land a mei luia de compasso (think thats the spelling, you twist to the ground at your side while kicking out in a wide arch) that connected with a guy's teeth out in the street once, sent Chicklets and blood flying everywhere. It's a helluva kick and rare to land, but when it does land it's not pretty. Any art can work for the street if you train it for the street.
Capoeira can be a very useful martial art to know. It takes a lot of practice and application before you could ever use it correctly. In Brazil Capoeira was used among gangs and theives. They prove that it can be so effective that the leaders of Brazil even made practicing Capoeira illegal for some time. While it was illegal it was disguised to look like a dance so all could still practice it, it still remains very effective. I practice capoeira so i'm somewhat biased, but I think there is nothing as fun as landing a mea lua in someone's face.

A very good art. It may take time to make it street effective if you only study capoiera but it will developp skills important for fighting. I think of it as a good complementary art.
timing, sense of distance, fluidity, footwork, staying relaxed during a fight, a better control over your body....
It's fun to watch and looks amazing, I've never seen it VS. a well trained MA'st from another art and have never heard any stories about it either. But I am confident that it is very effective against a non-trained combatant at the very least.
