I've never been to or seen a martial arts tournament. Can u tell me about them like how do u enter and where. My old dojo didn't go to tournaments so i don't kno anything about them.

-Tell me what i need to do or at least point me in the right direction_

    Thanx

Wow - this is a big question.

It depends on what martial art you're talking about. Different styles have different governing organisations, and I imagine that if you contact them, they will be able to tell you when there are tournaments on.

A lot of arts won't let you compete unless you're part of a school's team, though, so the fact that your dojo won't let you compete would mean that either you change schools, or your just don't compete.

But anyway, all the arts are different. If you're studying tae kwon do and you enter a BJJ tournament, you're a tool. Likewise, if you're studying greco-roman wrestling and you enter a muay thai tournament, you're also a tool.

Tournaments are good for setting goals and becoming better. Usually you have to be invited to a tournament, you cant just walk in and start competing. It might be best to either talk to your instructors, if you're that interested. Eventhough they dont go to or host tournaments, he might have connections to get you into one.
some tournaments include kata, sparring, weapons, and self-defense.
Any dojo would probably let you come to and watch a tournament.
Is your interest to compete, or to watch?

What would you like to compete in?
