  • sprained toe

    Hi, Im new to bjj (5 months) and i got my toe hung up in the mat last night. I was being taken down and it seemed to jam down and get stuck in the mat, then it twisted a little. Anyways it hurts like hell today and is a little black and blue. It does not seem to swolen and I dont think its broken. The pain seems to be in the joint that is closest to the toenail. This seems like it would be common injury in this sport so I was wondering if any of you have had this and what would you recomend to treat this?

    I've got "turf toe" in both big toes. I've sprained them so many times and they never get much better bc I can't stay away long enough for the sprains to fully heal. I've taped them up to prevent hyper-extension and it works to some extent.

    Try taping them or wear wrestling shoes.

      if you can move the toe, it's not broken but just a bad sprain.

      I use Dit Da Jow, a Chinese topical for all bruises and sprains and heals the boo boos up quick.

      I agree with the dude above;
      Use tape to tape your bad toe to another toe.
      You can wear socks, which makes you look kind of like a pansy.
      If your school will allow it on the mats, get a good pair of wrestling shoes...

      I've done it all with my joints, especially the toes
      The worst was a few times, bent the toe nail back, lots of blood and it hurts like a Muther!

        Ah, rolled toes. They suck! Time is key, and as sweep-em said, taping your toes up when you train is a good idea. I've also used anti-inflammatory gel for this type of thing.
