  • Shrimping...

I have a very difficult time shrimping out enough to clear my opponet anytime we are working on technique. I am only about 6 feet so I don't think my heigth is really the issue here. When I watch other people shrimping I watch their technique and I can't see they are doing anything different but yet when they shrimp they shoot out from between there opponet's knee's with plenty of clearence to assume the gaurd position.

    Thank's for any suggestion's!

    1. Make sure you block whatever you're shrimping away from. i.e. if you're trying to shrimp away from someone who's got side control, make sure you're controlling their hip so they can't follow you.

    2. Try a quick bump before you shrimp, just enough to take their weight off you for a milisecond and make the shrimp a bit more effective.

Bridge towards your opponent on your head and inner shoulder, then shrimp and make contact with your elbow and knee, extend, and re-guard. Now you try.

Well, for me, shrimping doesn't always work. If the opponent has a real tight mount and his legs dont allow you any room it probably wouldn't work. Well you can always do things to make more space between you and the opponent, but it would take you time and leave you open for other things. Also get the technique down, use both your hands to push against his knee, turn your body to an angle, angle your feet, then simultaneously push with the hands and feet to shrimp out. It may take more than one shot.

Man...all these terminologies confuse the HELL out of me...
I always thought shrimping had something to do with sucking a girl's toes...
