I am not an expert by any means.But it would make sence that to get big you have to eat more.
And to keep it from turning to fat,you need to exercise.
I am thinking that the only thing that the differant lifting programs differ in ,is what part of the body you are working on.
So to keep in proportion you would have to work out the entire body.
So try a wrestling training regement.
Look at the likes of Coleman,Kerr,Couture,Henderson,Jackson.
They all have body mass that is good and solid.
And they dont look like a body builder,(out of proportion).

You sum it all up great in your first sentence. A professional bodybuilding champ. Where in any of Yella's messages did it say he wanted a bodybuilding routine or that he was interested in the fastest route to gaining size? I do not see that anywhere, so why are you assuming? Is Yella interested on becoming the next Mr. Everything? No, he's interested in probably gaining some size to help in grappling game.
And who are you asking about barbell rows? If you're talking about me, tell me where you've said anything about them?
Lastly, your smart-ass comments about Dr. Squat's site shows your head is up your ass. His site is far from a power lifting site and your association of it soley with power lifting shows you know nothing of what's on there (if you look, you'll see it's geared towards various sports, like football, wrestling, some olympic lifting, etc). So, until you know what's up, shut the hell up.
Lastly, are you going to argue with many more people more knowledgeable than you in various areas of lifting you seem to know little about? I can play games, too, but argue with the likes of Brooks Kubik, as well as many people that are dead, including Arthur Saxon, Hinbern, etc, did programs like I described and probably literally lifted more with
their pinkies than you've ever lifted in your life. Oh, and to top it off, they got quite big and strong. I'd like to see the majority of bodybuilders match the strength levels in any lift (including OL style, which many of these people do and or did). My hats will go off to them in a second.
Now, maybe I've been a little harsh, but many of your posts come across as idiotic and reflect poorly on you. Muscle pumping belongs in bodybuilding, not in serious MA related training.
Yella ...personally I think your current routine looks quite good...keep at it for a while..just make sure the weight youre using is challenging for those low rep sets.
If you do want your legs to get bigger..I suggest you try these leg exercises:leg press, hamstring curls, leg extensions and calf raises...to really hit the entire leg properly...You can devote one workout day for legs only..
....keep it about the 8 rep range..3-4 sets
More importantly...STRETCH OFTEN!! During and after your workouts!..Thats the reason some people say doing weights makes them "slower"...no way... with proper stretching,weights should make your even faster!!
Keep up your routine.. you should see some results after a while...definately try a protein supplement too..
I've been using the above four exercises to develop my legs and I've gotten great results..in strength and size...
I'm 5'8 165 and I can leg press over 500 pounds quite easily..
If you are serious about putting on some mass, I highly suggest getting Randal Strossen's Super Squat book. Here's a link that talks about the high rep squat training a little.
I am a hargainer, and this was the most productive approach I ever tried. I must emphasize that this is some brutal training. It means doing high rep squats, some other basic exercises... shocking the muscles quickly, leave the gym, eating alot, and getting proper rest. Not alot of time in the gym.... but it is tough!
