Just because a website has interviews with the members of the Gracie family does not mean that these "association" packages are in any way endorsed by the family.
Again, I am not bashing jiu-jitsu.net, I just thought this topic was worthy of discussion.

I am not bashing either just trying to present facts. I dont really have an opinion on this style. It just seems to me that most of the BJJ people seem to think that BJJ is the only credible art that exist. anyway Check out mma.tv and bjj.org for references to this jiu jitsu.net and also check out their(gracies) home study instructor certification. Its all about $$$$$$$$$$$ now days, If you got the green backs you can get the black belt.

What a crock! they are going to give instructor certificates to someone that they have never even seen roll. How can someone teach others when they dont even know if what they are doing is correct. I think videos can be helpful if you are already training with a qualified instructor, but if you think you can learn any martial arts through videos alone you are sadly mistaken.

I think this topic has been discussed before but..
There is a demand for BJJ all around the world.
Major BJJ (or any MA really) organisations are quick to 'affiliate' any clubs that is is willing to 'represent' them and that means 'promoting' the new clubs leaders/members compare to the normal standards.
I do not think it is the best way to go about it but sometimes it is better than nothing really.
The problem is when a real BB comes in the area trying to promote the art and he receives the cold response from the unsecure existing 'affiliated' clubs. Rather to act like adult, they rather estranged themselves rather than doing the hard yard:
they know they got it easy form the overseas organization e.g meaning their BJJ belt sucks and they most probably will be demoted or ridicule once they roll with genuine BJJ belts.
In my case, the other clubs will not come to our open BJJ tournament.
They still rather host their own 'in-house' competition and not invite us.
Their leaders and students will get graded on the annual seminar from their overseas sensei.
The other day, a 'kid' from the other club came to roll, bragging about his only 'roll' with his overseas instructor. I felt sorry for him because I get to roll with my instructor (a brazilian BJJ BB) twice a week: the main reason is because I get outclassed by the senior members, my instructor will roll with me more often so I can practice without having to defend all the time (meaning being a practice dummy).
Sad but true, such club are turning like Karate Mc Dojo.
