im kinda surpised this guys name hasnt come up more often on this forum. is it just me, or is this guy one of the baddest mofos ever ? his standup is hardcore, brutal, and straight to the point. what u guys think of a martial artist and athlete the caliber of silva? does anyone know any interesting stories or anything interesting about him ? what was his style of martial art when he first started out, whas it straight up muay thai ?

btw quinton jackson is one huge badass too for going toe to toe with silva and taking as many knee shots as he did. he just kept getting back up. he deserves alot of respect.

oh your right, i forgot MMA is just short for MT/BJJ.

-on one hand i mean that sarcastically

-and on the other hand i mean that literally, and that disapoints me

but seriously, its not his ability i dont like, he is a winning mechine, but i just think of him as a crazed brute. He is a great fighter, and being crazed and being a brute often help people in fights. I just tend to enjoy watching cerebral fighters a little more, hes no moron but he isnt very cerebral.

silva started muay thai when he was like 15 or 16 and was an immediate badass hes got a pro muay thai record opf 17-0, his first fight in mma was brutallll theres a clip goin round the internet with it, bare knuckle in brazil it was crazy, hes such an awesome fighter. He also has a black belt in bjj and a chute box black belt.

Ummm a black belt in BJJ, I realize he has been given one, but Im 95% sure it is just an honorary one... he is competent on the ground... but I dont think he is of black belt caliber.... I've also heard many many people say that it is just an honorary black belt....

One of his chute box team members, shogun, who won the grand prix recently , was given his black belt after winning the grand prix.... did he suddenly become much more knowledgable about BJJ during those two fights?.... did he use a secret black belt technique during those fights (the answer is no)?

Yet he still got it.... I dont think they are viewed as legitimate BB.

On the other hand Silva is still an amazing fighter, and by all means could kick the shit out of me...

Plus... he was/is on steroids... so... thats a knock against him too...

-He is good enough to hold his own with blacks and tap browns, he is a legit black. They dont just hand those things out. But when you compete, in tourneys or MMA, the instructors look at that and give huge consideration when advancing students. Shogun is a black by a long shot, he is great on the ground. They dont give out "honorary" ones....the only one i heard of was Vitor Belfort getting a black after he left Rickson as a purple and Carlos Gracie sr gave him a black right away. Watching Vitor tap guys like Bustamante when training with BTT makes me think he deseveres black, but in the UFC he looks like a purple at best, so who knows. BJJ is mainly with the GI, so Silva with a GI is black for sure, without, he may as well be

the ammount of violence and force this guy generates is great. he stomps peoples skulls as if they were bugs when they are down in the ring. he doesnt show an sympathy at all.

did anyone see his match were he fought the roided out brazilian guy and loss? i heard it was decision, but u what did u guys think of the match? was it a legit loss? and what happened in the match? i didnt see it so i have no clue.

I dont have proof silva is on roids... but then again I've never done a steroid test on him so how could I.

However, pride does not test for steroids... so likely most of them are on steroids... do you think olympic athletes would stay clean if they knew they could be faster, strong, jump higher with roids....

There has been alot of speculation that he is on roids... and alot of speculation that he has gone off them before the arona fight (arona = the "roided out brazilian guy")

I'm sure most of them are on roids... and his match vs Arona he did lose via decision... but he did lose the fight, arona took him down, and controlled him the entire time... he was the clear winner although some may call it a lay and pray.
