Hey, guys I have a question for you. I am a big guy. I am 280 pounds and 6.4 feet tall. I am all fat so you know. I want to learn how to fight but I can't take a lot of conditioning. I want a standing game as well as ground. I like the idea of learning BJJ for my ground game but I don't know about the striking game. Thai kickboxing is what everyone says is good for striking but it is way too much conditioning I am going to die taking it. Any thoughts on what I should take. I heard shooto is good all round art but I live in Sacramento CA and I don't think I will find such a school. Also if you guys know some good schools in my area that will be helpful. Thanks

you're probably about 80lbs overweights. Even so your a pretty big dude. If you can get down to a fighting weight you'll be strong as hell. Your legs are already probably well developed from having to carry the extra weight around. It will take you years to lose all your bodyfat. You will lose tons of fat at first and gradually you'll lose it slower and slower. Most schools know how to work with people and really make it their mission to get their guys in fighting shape. Instructors aren't going to just get you in there and expect you to finish grueling exercises. But do what you can, push yourself and make you and your instructor proud. My point is; dont be afraid to study an art you really want to learn just because you dont think your physically ready. Most people aren't in shape when the enter a gym for the first time. Some people have breathing problems, bad knees, overweight, underweight, etc. It will take a while, but I think you'll be surprised how fast you get good at it. I know a cople big guys like you that can kick well over their head...and fast.

yeah man go to the muay thai and take the intense conditioning as best you can..... they arent going to kick you out of the gym if you dont do all the situps...
its just like on our football team... we dont cut the lineman because they cant do all the conditiong us linebackers do... or do it as fast.... they have other advantages... such as weight... and somtimes... strength.
